I feel it coming on.... a cold.... I always get one coming back to work . Anyways, for those of you that have been sick while breastfeeding, what did you take to feel better? I have read that pseudoephedrine can dry out your milk ducts, but is safe to take. Has anyone had that actually happen when taking it? What about tylonel cold and sinus (which also contains pseudoephedrine)? I just know I will be a mess when this comes on and I will have to take something!! TIA!

Honestly, I always avoided cold medicines while nursing. My children's pediatrician told me the only thing she was comfortable with me taking for a cold while breastfeeding was Benadryl, which doesn't do much for cold symptoms besides dry up a runny nose so I didn't bother with it. Thanks to having a kid in preschool, colds are frequent in our house, and I've always just let them work their course. In the event I've needed a prescription for something (like a UTI or sinus infection) I've called my OB, because they know what is safe while breastfeeding. I was under the impression pseudoephederine is not safe, but maybe someone else knows differently. I hope you feel better soon! I've been dealing with a never ending cold myself (and not taking anything because I'm pregnant and for half of it was breast feeding) and I am so ready to feel 100% again.
I took cold medicine and was ok. I would say that you'll be fine since it's not like she is a newborn. You have an established milk supply now. I usually took the bare minimum doses and also used my netti pot.
