I'm with you LB. I love to shop, but am drawn more toward classic pieces over trends. I don't revamp my wardrobe every season.
My closet is stuffed though, and if I don't clean it out every few months it gets out of control. I used to host clothing swaps every few months and make a point to get rid of more stuff than I kept from other girls' hauls. Now I usually just offer to any friends who are similar sizes if they want to dig through what I'm getting rid of, then give the rest to a women's shelter. Consignment is just too much of a hassle and I don't have that kind of time on my hands.
A lot of girls on S&B do blog sales. Again, seems like more time than it's worth, but i guess if you have higher end stuff it'd be worth it to get some cash out of the deal.
i'm not a fashionista like uw.. or maybe i am in my own right.. but anyway, usually because i don't buy expensive clothing, i'm over them by the time the season changes anyway. i always am able to wear jeans and other things in more than one season so i don't totally get a new wardrobe but i definitely buy new things.
also, i don't have any clothes from any season that fit. everything is too big and i've given it away already. so i don't have anything that could work. recently, within the past 3mo, i started buying some new stuff, here is what i got:
a tan cardigan a yellow/mustard cardigan nude patent tie up shoes (i don't know what they're called but they're adorable) mustard shoes grey flats a pair of camel/tan color boots olive jacket tan/camel color jacket leopard shirt long sleeve navy blue blouse brown/tan vneck thermal ish shirt (and a purple in the same color) some black suede wedges a pair of nude pumps a new pair of skinnies
i plan to still get a navy cardigan, a black cardigan, different boots (i'm not sure about the ones i have), a sweater or two, a scarf, considering getting leggings or tights for under my pants.
i don't consign anything, i usually give my clothes away to people that need them or can use them. usually i've gotten enough wear out of them myself that i feel good about my purchases and don't feel bad to buy new stuff..
i have been learning my lesson though, and buying more classic stuff and spending a little more money on stuff than before. the reason is because i feel like maybe i'll get a little more use out ofit. unfortunately, a lot of times my husband gives me his opinion and i rarely get what he likes.. but when i do, it is totally trendy and not something that will probably be cute next week.. lol. so that is where i waste a lot.
i think you can do stuff like they do on a cheaper budget.. so take what they're getting and adapt it.. i've been using pinterest for this. i'd love to see a link to the OOTD stuff, that seems like fun!
I definitely do not buy a new wardrobe every season. I tend to buy pieces that are quality and will last long and I baby my clothes, so I have a ton of stuff that still looks good, but is over 7 years old. I'm planning on keeping that stuff forever. I was starting to "grow out of" the stuff in my closet, so that's why I got you guys to join me in the healthy challenge. Right now, most things are a bit too big, so I do need to go to the tailor soon because I'm at my happy weight.
When things start looking ratty they get retired to the "home/weekend wear pile" and then when they get too ratty from there they get tossed. I'm rocking t shirts from early high school in that pile.
Yeah, I shop a lot. I can't deny that. But I do also try to shop for things with staying power. Things I can mix and match throughout all seasons. Once or twice a year, I will sweep through my wardrobe and pull things I haven't worn for one full round of seasons. Depending on their state, I will either toss them, or offer them to friends -- I've seriously given bags of clothes and shoes to friends and all I ask is for them to donate whatever they end up not wanting, or I will simply just donate myself.
If I choose to buy an investment piece, then it's got to be something that I could potentially wear forever. I don't just randomly give away investment pieces (I'm not *that* generous!) I've actually never had an investment piece that I've chosen to give up, again, because it must have staying power - bring that price per wear down!
I'll admit, I love the OOTD threads. I secretly would love to be a blogger, but yeah, I don't have a personal photographer nor do I think I'd have the time and the patience to do so. So, as an alternative, any OOTD I post on the S&B board, I also upload to Tumblr so I have them all in one place. www.tumblr.com/blog/caryllee
It's fun to see the progression of outfits, and it also forces me to try and think of new outfit combos. Come play with us!!
I definitely shop a lot. I'm really working now to focus on quantity rather than quality. My big problem is that I've changed sizes a lot over the past few years. So I'll have to do things like re-buy jeans, etc. I donate a ton, and also give a good amount to my sister. My closet is also pretty full of clothes .
I'm definitely not considered a fashionista and could not honestly tell you what the latest trends are. I simply buy something that I'm going to like, that looks good on me and that isn't too ridiculously expensive.
Every 6 months or so I do go through my closet and do a purge. If I haven't worn it in a long time it's gone. I always take my clothes to Goodwill. Selling them would take too much time and honestly I'd rather help someone out that needs the help.
I totally make cheaper outfits out of pictures I see on Pinterest. I really want a chambray tunic but I cant afford to go shopping right now. Well the other day I found a chambrary-ish men's dress shirt in DH's closet and it fits me like a tunic. I'm wearing it today with black jeggins, a wide belt and leopard print flats. It looks really cute and I didn't have to buy anything new for the look.
i get my skinnies from forever 21. they don't last a LONG time bu they're super cute. a friend of mine always gets them at old navy and hers last forever. mine cost $13.50. look at forever 21 for a cambray top.. h just got one and it was 20 i think. seriously.. finding stuff on your h's side is incredible! i NEVER wear my leopard flats and it makes me sad. i want to swap clothes with people... lol.
bwhahaha, how did I get labeled as a fashionista?! hahaha.
lol.. apparently taht is what we nexties think about you. plus, you know you always look great and always pick adorable outfits. the thing about my body is that i need things to fit to my body.. because of the way it's shaped, when i wear big clothes it makes me look larger. h hates bigger clothes. but skirts and stuff have to be form fitting for me to not look HUMOUGOUS (how do you even spell that word)
