They created their own record label after their 3rd album. Their parents kept all of their money and then gave them each chunks when they turned 18. They then turned around to create their own indie label. They produce their own stuff and the stuff of other indie bands. They had several big hits and were huge in Europe and Asia.
With the help of their family they made some very smart business decisions.
I have heard similar information as well. I remember reading that their parents would let them select moderate big ticket items several times, rather than cash to spend along the way.
At one point their dad brought them all out to get mopeds, and I believe that when they each got their drivers permits, they got to pick out moderately priced cars. Aside from that, they weren't allowed to spend much at all, and even spoke of shopping for their clothing where they had all along - Good Will and thrift stores.
I don't think they're extremely wealthy anymore. Not by rock star standards, anyway. They took a huge financial hit to have their own record label. I think they're definitely more well off than most of us, though.
I am also questioning how rich the Hansons actually are. They were really young when they were big...young enough to have taken a crap deal from their label...and were also not that big for very long.
I mean...apparently they have enough $ for 5 kids, but the MMer in me would love to see their finances.
Lurker and Hanson fan here...
They are actually very wealthy.

Good for them. If I had a lot of money, I would definitely have more kids. Thanks to the HCOL in DC, all we could afford is probably 2.
Surprised people doubt their wealth. They are likely wealthy. They were HUGE,and touring makes $$$ and young girls will spend $ for tickets and shirts.
Their songs are still played ( earning $ each time) and if their parents helped them be smart about spending, and they are producing now, etc I'm sure they have money.

Yeah, they may not be too mainstream these days, but there are musicians with only a one hit wonder who made enough to set them for life. Good money management and sound financial decisions can take a person pretty far.

MM needs to watch more VH1!
I think I watch VH1 at the wrong time. I always see the stories about broke rock stars crying. I get uncomfortable and turn it off...

Yeah, but so was MC Hammer.
A lot of 'huge' musicians end up getting screwed...either by labels, management, etc...or by their own stupid $$ decisions.
But I'm glad to hear that they are actually wealthy...good for them! (And good for their parents for instilling that in them and helping ensure they didn't squander it!)
Lol. IIRC, I've heard that they'll be on tour again next year.
I've never seen Hanson in concert. My parents thought an hour was too far to drive. Now I'd probably have to go by myself; I can't see SO agreeing to go see them.
My parents wouldn't take me either! Do we live close at all? I'd totally go with you
I still totally love Hanson, I'll admit it. And I also sort of question Taylor's wife.... lol
I always thought they seemed like really nice people. Too wholesome to be close friends, but people that you would like to have around.
I am suspicious of Taylor's wife though.
They ARE really nice!! I met them in NYC in 2000, and that's how I became a fan. I was on a drama club trip and we were sneaking out of our hotel to go see Times Square at night, and they we walking in. I was like, "oh look, it's Hanson, who cares? So, Times Square?" and my friend shoved me back inside and said, "yeah, famous people! And you're the only one with enough balls to talk to them!!"
So I did. And then we got our picture taken with them, and finally left to go see Times Square. I felt so bad for previously making fun of them back when MMBop came out, so I went home and bought their new album, This Time Around. It was really good, and so began my late-entrance to becoming a Hanson fan.
I went to a concert 7 years ago and ran into Natalie in the back where they were selling t-shirts. I didn't recognize her, all I saw was a girl holding a baby. The baby had ear muffs on and I was like "Who in fuck is this pathetic bitch, bringing a baby to a concert". Then I realize and felt like an asshole because was giving her obvious side-eye.
I think she keeps popping out babies, because she doesn't want him to leave her. (Yes, I'm jealous. )
Its a lot of kids, in my family 1-2 is the norm, but hey if thats what they want wth, as long as the tax payers arn't paying for it, more power to him if he wants more.
