I have purchased it for travel outside the US. I didn't use it, thankfully. But it covers a certain amount of medical care and air lifting to nearest hospital etc.
So I need to make the final payment on a trip to Mexico...it's right after Christmas, but because I have no clue if I'll be employed, or if my employer will let me have the time off, I'm not sure if I move forward with payment or cancel it. If what I read it correct, I could potentially use it for unemployment....
We have travel insurance for long term travel outside the US. It would cover things like medical evacuation/hospitalization, trip cancellation that is outside our control (weather, political unrest, etc), theft or damage of personal property. We had to use it when H was hospitalized in Peru with food poisoning, and it covered the bill in full.
If I were traveling extremely short term, or within the US, I probably wouldn't bother with it. For longer term travel (or depending on where you are going, I suppose), it is totally worth it.
