yeah, my car insurance went up from like $1100 to $1300. I was pissed. That is for one year, and for both me and H on one car (we only have one car). We don't even drive it that much - I walk to to work, and H walks to the train station and then takes the train.
I called to complain and they said they had an across the board rate increase in my state. I then tried to shop around and everyone else was more expensive, too!!! Both my H and I have perfect driving records.
I'm in NH and our house and car rates stayed the same. Well, I think the house insurance went up by ~$10 for the year. In the past three years we haven't had significant increases in either.
Mine went down this year, but only after I called. I was asking about something else, and the agent offered to run my coverage. Auto and home both went down a bit.
ETA - And I did have a comprehensive claim this year for some debris in the road that hit my car. At the time of the claim, they said it wouldn't affect the price of my insurance, but I didn't really believe them. I guess it was true.

NJ just had a large rate increase for the year. I don't know how much for us exactly because I just changed our insurance (one car in storage and the other moved to another state), but I do know quite a few people had this issue and the insurance companies were saying it was a state thing.
WE changed carriers 2 years ago because our original carrier tripled the costs. New carrier was actually less than before, but we've had so many tornados/hail storms in our area not to mention it seems like everyone and their mother has been struck by lightening including the house next door to us.
Check with your insurance if there are discounts available to you. (We were able to get a discount for a new roof since 2008, a new energy efficient furnace. We increased the deductible on both car and house for a lower premium as well.)
I think Michigan car insurance is scheduled to go up a few hundred this year =( This is to cover the huge amounts paid out involving auto medical coverage (Michigan has no limits on it).

I've filed more auto claims than anyone I know and my insurance has never increased. I'm not sure why. I used to have a $0 deductible back in the day though, and they did send me a letter saying they were raising my deductible to $250.
