My pedi said we don't need to do a digital beyond 6 months. They use a forehead one, but I am pretty sure they have a fancy expensive one that I am not willing to buy. We use a ear one, it seems accurate.
Scary. Damage can easily be done in that area if you aren't slow, and keep them still. If she's that mobile now, crawling with one inside of her could cause a puncture.
I would definitely transition to the ear or temple thermometers now.
As in, up her arse? You know you can just put a thermometer under their arm, right? Or get one of those forehead thermometers? Or an ear thermometer.
For a one year old? I thought rectal was best. And those forehead thermometers are crap.
Our peds have all used them, and the ER. But then they're also more interested in the child's behaviour than the number of their temperature. I haven't taken a temperature in years.
Our temporal thermometer cost $50, maybe, and totally worth it. I have never taken a rectal temp. The only time DS had it done was in the ER when he had croup.
