DH and I are looking for a media unit for our Living Room. It will be full wall unit in whitish.
There are 3 we are considering and wondering if anyone has any experience with the brands/how well they will hold up, compared to the costs. So, clearly the Ikea unit is less expensive and will likely be less quality but it is also half the price. We can afford any of the options but I would rather not spend more than needed.
Anyone have any experience with any of these furniture lines? Opinions?
Ikea Unit -http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80116596/ Will be about $1500 with all of the options we want.
I'm not able to click on the ikea link, but i agree that the pb one is much more attractive than the ea one and that it will likely hold up better than the ikea one.

We have a wall unit combo we bought at Ikea. It has held up really well and people are surprised when we tell them who made it.
I don't see it on the site but we have a low TV stand with drawers underneath, two book cases on either side with glass front doors on the top and solid doors on the bottom, with a shelf piece that connects the two book cases over the TV to give it that wall unit look. We also added a skinny open bookcase on either side. It's dark wood and I changed all the hardware so it didn't look so Ikea-ish.
If you aren't going to move it around a lot I think the Ikea piece will be fine.
I don't like the Ethan Allen one you posted, but normally I would go with them.
I have zero clue where you are located geographically, but around these parts, we find photos of large items like this and have the Amish build them. Talk about quality.
I'm in Seattle. I'm not sure if there is anything around here like that? I know my parents in the midwest used to do this often.

Thank you! This sounds like what we would build with the Ikea pieces, and it won't be moving anywhere. Good tip about the hardware.
I'm surprised so many dislike the EA one.. DH isn't too fond of it either, hm, he must have better taste than me. hah.
I haven't loved EA since they went contemporary quite a few years ago. The pieces were very well made back in the day. I have the desk I used as a kid in our guest room today! These days I'm not that impressed - especially for the price.
just passing through, but I would go with Ikea mainly because TV sizes, styles etc change so quickly. If you do redecorate in 5 years you won't be out a ton of money.
And just to let you know how expensive it is in here in OZ (PB now ships here so they convert $$ rfor you) that unit is AUD3221.50 – AUD4832.80. Without shipping.
We had something like this when we first got together and then had to get rid of it when we bought a bigger TV. So because of that I say I like the IKEA one better.

We have an IKEA TV console and coffee table that DH bought in college about 12 years ago. It looks pretty beat up, to be honest, but it still holds the TV up.
We also have, and give daily use to, my parent's 1972 EA dining room set. It has held up beautifully through dozens of moves and my childhood! The older solid-wood EA pieces were amazing, so for longevity, they'd be my choice.
Having said all that, we looked at EA when we went to buy a bedroom set 5 years ago, and EA's quality seemed to have slipped. We went with Thomasville, because we found the quality construction AND the style we wanted. We've been happy so far.
I have heard that Pottery Barn quality has really gone downhill. I'd go with Ethan Allen.
A about a month ago we were at the Pottery Barn Outlet and we were looking at headboards there. My DH saw bed bugs crawling on quite a few of them. I was disgusted. I agree that I think their quality it going down hill....

This is why we have a tv stand that does not have sides around the tv itself. Then we have two shelves on either side. Maybe that is an option for you OP?
I had IKEA furniture in college and it did not hold up at all. But then again, it was college, so it wasn't like we were taking the best care of it.
We have a liatorp table from Ikea that's 5 years old and it's held up great. We also have an Ikea TV stand (that they don't make anymore), but also people are suprised at how sturdy it is.
