My 4 year old just swallowed a little glass bead. He's fine, no trouble breathing or anything and can drink water just fine. I see no reason to bring him to the ER, correct?
Do you think I need to really make sure to examine his bowel movements to make sure it passes? Or is this too small of an object to worry about that?

i wouldnt' worry or even bother calling the doc. A swallowed bead is not gonna be an issue... now, if he stuck it in his nose or ear - whole other story.
And it's quite common for 4yos to have access to beads and other small things... children that age shouldn't be putting stuff in their mouths --- hence, "3yo+" labeled on most toys with small parts.
Only because it is glass would I call. I would ask daycare to give me a bead like the one he swallowed just in case the dr. wants to see it. But all in all it will be fine. I have seen kids eat rocks and coins and be fine. Better swallowed than inhaled or stuck into a hole on their body somewhere!
I'd call the ped but I think swallowing a bead is better than stuffing it up your nose like my son did. That wasn't a fun extraction and the whole ped office found it to be the highlight of their day
