so i've been shopping for cars and wanting to buy used. nothing has seemed like 'the one' until last night. i decided that we needed 2 new for us cars because h drives a piece and we just need to upgrade, especially with babies (hopefully) on the horizon. so we look last night and we bought 2 new cars.
my criteria was simple: low mileage, low monthly payment, newer than 2008, enough room for babies and that sort, good gas mileage, sexy/sleek for a girl. oh, and power doors/windows/entry. colors: black, white, charcoal grey
h's criteria: he didn't care, as long as i'm happy.. so basically see above. colors: not red (i don't like red... and otherwise he didn't care). not necessarily sleek and sexy for a girl, but still handsome.
we found a chevy cruze and a chevy malibu in our price range, low mileage, 2011 and 2012, we loved to drive them, they felt sexy and amazing.. and so we purchased. we drove mine (the chevy cruze) home and left his.. they are making new keys and checking on a seatbelt sensor. our choice to leave it and not take it home until it was perfect.
anyway- my car is silver.. which is a color i've always disliked. i really want a black car and have heard that they get dirty really easy but i didn't really care, i just want a black car.
here is my first world problem: i bought a 2012 chevy cruze in silver. the silver isn't the traditional looking silver, in my opinion, it's lighter and looks whitish, so i actually still like it a lot. surprisingly, because i've always almost hated silver cars.. don't ask me, my last car was arctic blue and looked silver.... they called me this morning to tell me that they found a 2011 chevy cruze in black, same everything, at another location and they will bring it for me to look at and i could trade it out. it also has 10k more miles on it, but still low mileage, but is a year older.
my dilema: i really want a black car, but got used to the idea of the silver. i didn't think we'd be buying a 2012 but now that i have it, i like it. i googled and it doesn't look like there is much of a difference between the two cars. but i think 2011 was the first year for the car.
if you were me, what would you do? (obviously i'll see the car, make sure it's just as perfect as the one i have, drive it, and make the choice... but i still need to know what you all would do)
I would not go with the black car. We had a black rogue we traded in back in July. I loved how the black looked, when it was clean. It was a biyotch to keep clean. It showed dirt really easily plus you would get the "swirly" marks whenever you washed it.
If payments are the same, I'd stay with the one you have. It has less miles and it's newer. Seems like with 10K more miles and a year older, the payment should at least drop.
holy crap. you bought two cars? you lined a salesman's pocket yesterday, didn't you!
i'd stick with silver. 2nd year of the car has fewer probs than the first, usually.
This. I also think dealers typically try to guilt you by saying they aren't making any money on a car. I don't buy it I think they use it as a sales strategy especially with women... I wouldn't worry about how much the dealer isn't making.

i completely agree. they totally try to make you feel bad. i really liked these people and they seemed totally honest. the whole process seemed very transparent and SO different from my last experience where i felt so taken advantage of. this time, i felt like iw as in control. we didn't pay over kbb for either of the cars, so that made me happy. plus, they are super nice cars.. i kinda am diggin the silver now. maybe i should say i'm not even interested in the black.. plus, i could tint the windows a little more. the black on the inside is so nice, you would never know what color car you were in.. plus, i won't have to wash the oustide as much.
well i just heard from the place, the black is on it's way there anyway, so atleast i'll get to choose and no obligation, obviously. but it's nice that they cared enough to do that for me! i did always want black. lol.
I agree with a few others in I never buy a first year model. It's just always been a rule of thumb for us as they seem to have more hiccups. I'd say if you really like the black better and didn't buy a warranty, see if they will add one to the plan for free in return for you taking the older/more miles car.

jennuinne- if i can, you totally can. you should do it!!!
oh also, f/u on this. i went to look at the other car, and i stayed with the silver. i love it and the black didn't have as many options, plus the silver is newer and is super sexy! anyway, he dropped the price to fit into the price range he promised me so i even got a bigger deal than i originally got!
