We are going to MA for 10 days to see my family. We struck out on the usual haunts by taking too long to book, so we have 2 options for a rental house and honestly can't decide. Which would you choose?
Option A:
Is in a quaint little town Close to a great park Walking distance from the cute town center Has a/c window units in bedrooms Has a room with 2 twin beds for the boys Queen in master Is 30-40 minute country road drive from my mother
Option B:
In a bigger city but quiet, residential neighborhood Can walk to parks but not to businesses No a/c King size master bed (which is what we have at home) Boys would sleep together in a queen Is 10 minutes from my mother's house
Note: My mother lives in the same city as B, but she works close to A. She will be working while we are there, so we are on our own during the day. She can be at rental A in 10 minutes after work, but if we go to her house to swim/eat, it's a 30 minute drive home after.
ETA: Option A is $350/week more than B. We are staying for 2 weeks.
I need to book within 48 hours and am having total decision paralysis and DH is less than no help!
I would spend the extra money to be closer to the city - but I live in the burbs so I like to be in the city on vacations. In your situation, since you will be on your own during the day, do you think that the city house would have more to keep you and the kids entertained?

I'd say they are about the same, honestly. The city is small, like 150k ppl and is pretty working class so it's not at all touristy. The small town is a college town and very quaint. We'd be able to walk to town center to have lunch. We can walk to a nice park from both locations.
ETA: The small town house is actually the more $ one.

Hmm, in that case, I would go with the one in the college town.
When will you be visiting? If summer, I'd go for the one with the AC. You don't always need it, but when you do and you don't have it, it kind of sucks. I was leaning towards that house anyway since it has the twin beds for the boys, but 40 mins to your mom's seems pretty long if the point of the visit is to see your mom. f you want to mention the different towns you are considering, I'm happy to weigh in from a local's perspective.
Personally, I'd go with A. I like the idea of having places to walk with the kids since you know you'll be needing to occupy yourself while she's at work.
Are you going to be spending a lot of time at your mom's house? So much that the 30 minute drive might get annoying? What about traffic - would you risk running into that on your way there/back? If any of these, I'd probably go with B.
I would definitely go with A. This is spoken as someone with kids who rented a condo with twin beds in the guestroom and the oldest declared it "the best hotel EVER" even after having rented rooms with individual kids' rooms (or whatever you want to call them) at Great Wolf Lodge and near Disney World.
