It's not glued up yet, and it can't be closed completely because the bottom rail is a bit too wide, but you sort of get the idea of where it's going.
There will also be an extra decorative piece of VG fir running lengthwise down the center of the bottom panel on the front and a mirror on the inside of the bottom panel. I'm thinking I'll attach the mirror in with some sort of molding.
Just the door is truly salvaged. The drawer fronts were leftover baseboards (we had to have new ones cut to match the old ones, since we had a lot of mismatched replacements throughout, and we overdid it a bit to avoid having to order more). So salvaged from our remodel, but not salvaged from old wood. The door was a single panel door from a local salvage shop and stripped with heat, Peel Away and citrus stripper. We're going to have to buy new wood for the decorative rail on the front. Also, because of the door handle mortise in the old doors, DH is using only one of the long rails from each door. I think we're going to end up needing to buy one or two more rails for the other two doors since we're losing one long rail per salvage.
Hardware is from House of Antique Hardware. I probably could have salvaged that, but I'm a sucker for HAH. I might as well just send them my paycheck each month.
Well maybe you could use the rail (I think that's a technically a stile though right?) that had the door handle in it for the strip you need to add on the bottom...depending on where the door handle was. I'm sure you DH will use as much as he can.
Oohh which hardware are you going with? I love their stuff but I'm normally drawn to the more plain pieces which I can get other places for cheaper. I also love a lot of the intricate Victorian pieces but I don't want to use them anywhere too permanent since it doesn't really go with the style we're going for. I'm thinking I could use them someday on a refurbished dresser or end table instead of our bathroom vanities or we-will-have-forever-because-it-was-so-expensive dresser.
For our dresser I'm going to order these from the Amerock Blackrock line today:
Sorry, you're right, I wrote it backwards. Morning brain! I had the same thought about planing it down for the faux stile on the bottom half.
Pretty hardware! Very Craftsman-y. Are you building the dresser? I should work on finding the simple hardware somewhere cheaper, I just like that everything there has such a wonderful heft and finish; I'm afraid of what I might get elsewhere if I can't touch and see it in person.
I'm just using some of their plain antique brass spring catches on the doors. Nothing too fancy.
Oh I love cabinet latches! I hear you about liking hardware with a weight to it. I've seen these handles in person so I know they are nice and solid.
No we saved up and bought a custom built dresser from the same Amish place we got our bed from 4 years ago. We asked for GC there as Christmas and Anniversary presents and had enough to cover the deposit. It came a few weeks ago and it's huge! It's over 6' long. We only have one wall that can have a dresser on it and it's a long blank wall so this will fill the space nicely...it's just so big in person LOL. It's made with very, very gorgeous select grade cherry. The top is to die for! It looks like this only lighter and color and with no mirror:
We had two slide out drawers put behind the door for bulky items. I'm getting the ring pull for the door, square knobs for the skinny drawers on top, and 4" pulls for the drawers.
