My 2 year old son seems to be potty training himself before I am ready! I'm due with baby #2 in four weeks, and my son is 28 months old. He has been using his potty randomly for a while now, but suddenly this week he is asking to use it himself and is staying dry in his diapers. Today was the first day he went #2 in the potty. I think if I worked with him it would be a breeze to train him right now, but I'm afraid that he will just regress next month when the new baby gets here.
Should I follow his lead & go for it? Or just wait until later? WWYD?

My first instinct was to say to let him go in the potty as much as he wants but hold off on a full transition, because IMO the hardest part is asking/convincing them to go every 30 minutes - and you may not have time for that immediately post-baby. But, will your DH or other family be around the first few weeks when the new baby comes? If so maybe that will give you the extra help you/he need.

He's still awfully young. My DD would be randomly interested in the potty around that age, but it passed quickly.
You could try it, but I wouldn't push too much. Potty training is so time consuming, and you won't have time with a newborn around. Also, when he regresses, it will just drag out the misery. Trust me, I know -- we moved in the middle of potty training!

I was 34 weeks PG with #2, #1 was 33 months old and starting to show real interest in the potty. DH was going on a business trip, it was the middle of the summer (July 4th weekend as a matter of fact) and I hated leaving the air-conditioned house...basically, I had the time to stay home near the potty with DD naked from the waist down to make things easier so I decided to go for it.
She was trained in 4 days. Had an occasional accident here and there, and was totally against using a public toilet but fortunately could usually hold it until we were home, but overall able to go about her business like a big girl after that. And not a single minute of regression once her little sister was born.
So IMO, if you feel up to it and your DC seems ready, why not try?
