So since I'm new to Seattle and am a midwesterner, so quite familiar with wearing snow boots to the office and changing into regular shoes when I get there, I have a question about rain gear.
Will I look like a complete idiot if I get rain boots (probably hunters) and wear them into the office, then change my shoes to office-appropriate ones?
When I was commuting to college at Seattle Central I saw several people walking the streets of Seattle in rain boots. Heck half the women that ride the ferry wear tennis shoes until they get to their office.

I don't think so. I see a lot of people wearing those hunter rain boots. And some of the boots are pretty cute. That said, it doesn't usually rain hard enough here to need rain boots if just walking from the car or bus to your office.
They keep going back and forth but right now it doesn't look like it will be that bad on Friday. The heavy rain is forecasted for Saturday night through Monday.

This. I usually only wear my rain boots to muddy soccer fields, but I also don't have to walk very far in my dress shoes.

Nope! Lots of gals that I commuted with would wear theirs on the bus just to keep their pants dry. Only once or twice in my 2 1/2 years there did I curse wishing I had a pair.
Just don't use an umbrella. If you do, everyone will know you are not from here!
I'm a native and I use an umbrella.
But yeah, rain boots are totally fine. My walk to work involves lots of puddles, so they're a necessity for me. I bring shoes and change at work. A lot of times if I'm running errands on the weekend I'll just wear rain boots out and about.

This. I don't wear rain boots, and rarely use an umbrella. I recommend investing in a good hooded rain jacket, and you'll fit right in
i think it will depend on your work atmosphere. i always thought it was normal to change from rainboots to "regular" shoes at the office...i did this all the time at my last job. i got "made fun of" at my current job for doing so.
