Somehow I never was offered an NT scan & now I'm borderline too late. I just saw my OB for first time this morning & asked. I saw a NP twice for US but she never said I was the one who had to request/schedule it. I'm with a new healthcare/insurance this pregnancy & it's quite different. Anyway I kind of want to do it just to see baby (another u/s) & for piece of mind. But late means higher chance of false positives so the piece of mind could really backfire. I would not do amnio even if something was wrong & I would also carry any baby to term. So it's kind of stupid to do the NT scan, right? I've always done it in the past so I just thought I would again. I'm advanced maternal age now FWIW.
I'd probably skip it, but if you want the information I'd ask about the new blood test they've got. Not sure on the details, but someone posted about it on here.
I would not do a late NT. Can you do one of the new genetic tests instead--MaterniT21, Harmony, or Verify? They are all more accurate than an NT scan, non-invasive, and can be done anytime after 10 weeks without having to worry about a cut-off. My OB offered it to me automatically because I am 35. I would push for that.
I had the MerterniT21 - noninvasive, no risk, and definitive results. I am currently waiting for my results but am happy we went this route, it's just a blood draw.
Good idea guys! Thanks! Those tests are new to me. I have the phone number to the genetics department (which does the NT scan) & I'll ask them if anything else is offered. I automatically get an more thorough US & see the fetal maternal (not sure thats the right term) Doc for my "big us" due to AMA so that will probably catch most things. I won't act but I would like to be mentally prepared if the baby has issues.

Hmm. My ob wouldn't allow you to have one at this point. They had a strict 14wk cutoff. And if you wouldn't do anything with the results then I wouldn't bother.
I dont know what the point of an NT scan is if you are an individual who would never consider abortion (like I am). Seems kind of pointless to me.
Time to come to terms with the fact that your child may not be physically perfect? More time to research the best place and team to birth your child with?
I don't know that the point of posting your opinion on people that would never consider an abortion was.

I don't know about timing (my OB did have a strict cutoff, but I don't remember what it was...13 or 14 weeks if I remember correctly), but I do know she agreed 100% with my decision to skip the NT if I wasn't willing to have an amnio as a follow-up should it be warranted.

Honestly. The NT scan could haved helped us learn if any of my heart defects had been passed along. (My NT ws fine.) If there were markers for DS/heart issues, my cardio/peri/OB team would have had more time to figure out the game plan. I'm having a fetal echo even though the NT was fine, obv, but there is SO much that can be prepped and organized in advance with knowledge.
