The weather has started to get cooler and I am struggling to figure out how warm I need to dress DS for outside play. So help me out here. What temperatures would you dress your kid in the following:
(please note he will be wearing a long sleeve shirt under all of these options)

I usually give her a little thicker layer than me because she isnt moving/pushing a stroller.
I dont know temperatures at all Right now, it is 55degrees and she was wearing a fleece full body suit with a hat. But it is very windy on my street. I would have also put her in a puffy coat or peacoat.

Boo. I need more specific answers. I don't even wear a coat to work since I don't go outside. And sometimes I feel like he gets super hot and sweaty in something that wouldn't bother me.

Like they have been going outside in the morning and I think it is under 60 degrees and he is just wearing a hoodie and a longsleeve shirt. I am pretty sure I am fine in that, but then I wonder whether he will get cold. But then if I dress him in a warmer sherpa version then I feel like that is too hot? Stupid not being able to talk and tell me things.
What are the other kids wearing? I figure out my outer wear from people who walk by my window.
Yeah, see my concern about this is he is the only one going outside who can't walk. So the other kids run around all day and he just army crawls. I feel like they must get warmer?
Is he at daycare? If so I would send in a sweatshirt and a fleece jacket, and let the teachers figure out what combo to use. My test measure as a teacher and a mom was always to feel the kids hands when they were out playing. If they are cold - put more on. If hot, unzip or take something off.
I think you are overthinking it but I am the mom whos kid was in a super thick cardigan and gloves yesterday morning while some kids were in parkas. It was 60 in the morning and 75 or so in the afternoon. No one needs a parka for that. Or anything involving a faux fur lining.
I do keep a jacket at school for DD and DS keeps one in his backpack. This time of year we are all about layers.

Ok thanks. I think this is what I will do. I was trying to ask them today and they are just like "what you think is best!" I was like you are the one playing outside with him all day, please tell me what he needs ha ha.
Cotton hoodie: 60+ degrees? Fleece hoodie: 45 or 50 - 60 degrees? Coat: Low 40s or below.
This morning it was in the low 50s I think and I put DD is long sleeves with a fleece hoodie. A few degrees colder and I would have added a hat and gloves. A little colder than that, and I'd do a coat.

Oh, yeah he won't be in the parka until the 30s.
THe temp seems to be low 50s in the morning and I have been putting him in a long sleeve shirt, hoody, and a beanie (when he wears it). They say he seems fine, so I guess I can trust that. I think I will send a sherpa lined hoody with him as well just so they can pick one over the other if he seems cold.

Ok cool, his cotton hoody is pretty thick, but maybe i will send the fleece one instead. Your answers sound about where I am at.
DS runs warm, though, like his dad! So I often will dress him one level down from me. I run a lot colder!
This is where we're at too. If I dress him like me (fleece jacket at 70 degrees) he's sweating. So I've been doing a romper w/ sweatpants and socks. I figure once I start wearing my wool peacoat is when i'll put him in his fleece sweatshirt. I also go by the cold hands = add layers.
We have a full zip hooded fleece that I think is pretty versatile. I think it was like 58 yesterday and he wore that. I don't put him in the winter coat at all unless we are playing in the snow usually, because he cant wear it in the car.
I think a sweatshirt will work to 55, 55-45 fleece, then below that I might just do an extra layer until it is totally freezing so he needs the parka (like when we go cut down our Christmas tree or something. He wears a hat most day (a baseball cap until fall when we switch to a beanie, then a fleece hat, and gloves or mittens when I can convince him.
I would probably leave a fleece jacket along with a hat and mittens at daycare so they can add a layer as needed.

We have cotton hoodies, fleece vests, and the 3-in-1 jackets from TCP. We do fleece vests for 55ish+ degrees, cotton hoodies for 45-60 degrees, and fleece jackets from the TCP coats for everything else. If it's super cold out, we'll use the second layer of the 3-in-1 jacket over the fleece jackets as soon as we get out of the car.
I loved some of the puffy jackets I saw this year, but I didn't get them b/c they can't be worn in the car.
We don't have anything warmer than a fleece hoodie. I figure for 45 and below I'll double up. I'm not buying a coat for 1 yr olds they'll wear 4 times.
I admit I have a problem. BUt I own like 20 coats myself and DH owns like 6. We are a coat loving family. They are just so adorable!
