I would feel comfy in India - though it's god awful hot right now - I used to walk around on my own quite a bit the first time I went. I'd do Northern India as it'll be cooler - Amritsar, Delhi, hill stations. If you do go, and want a few contact numbers in case of emergencies, I can give you family numbers.
I haven't been to any of these places, but it seems like Laos is on the tourist/backpacker trail enough to make it perfectly doable by yourself. Same with Philippines.
I don't know anything about Sri Lanka, Sumatra and Myanmar to comment. If ukyankee says India's a go, then I'd consider it.
India is awesome, but I agree: hot! At this point in time anyway. You could see a lot in a short amount of time. The Philippines are super laid back most of the time as well, unless you're trekking in the jungles of the islands, which doesn't sound like your plan. The others, I'm unsure of.
MrsUKYankee has way more experience than I do, but I struggled in India any time I was separated from DH. I dressed really, really conservatively but I still had some stressful situations. We did find that trip difficult (and amazing!) in general though so I might have just been a bit overwhelmed. I would think it would depend on where you were going and how you were planning to get around.
India was the most incredible holiday we've had - overwhelming and exciting and beautiful and terrifying all at once.

All that I know about Laos is that I've heard it has great beer. I'd also recommend asking on the Lonely Planet forums called Thorn Tree. Those people have been everywhere.
Myanmar has the friendliest locals of pretty much anywhere I've ever been, along with a couple of places in Africa. I would highly recommend. Sri Lanka would also be great.
I think solo traveling in India and Sri Lanka would be totally doable. No experience with the other countries, but as a personal preference, I'd avoid the Philippines on my own. Sounds like it's going to be awesome no matter what country you chose, though!
publius I randomly came across this blog just now. Solo Female Traveler www.solofemaletraveler.com/ Seems like most of her stuff is in the Mideast. But I didn't go back in her archive.
