We were looking to go to Florida to see my family. For the same weekend, it is $330 a ticket for us to go to Tampa, but $230 a ticket for them to come to Boston. I bought my mom a ticket to come here instead. It would've been $1000 in tickets, plus $60 for a rental car and $75 in parking for us to go there, and they are in the middle of nowhere and my dad makes no time to see us. We will just skype with them on Christmas (we aren't a particularly close family).
we are planning on a day trip! I wish we could get a hotel in the city for a night but I think SO's mom would be crushed. we do only visit once a year and things have been so smooth lately, so I'm sucking it up. lol.
These ticket prices are good deals! We are going from OC to San Francisco and it is $323 for both of us + free baby.
That's not a bad price. We just drive to the Bay Area. With getting to the airport, dealing with luggage, flight delays I think the drive is easier and sometimes faster.

Going from SNA to Detroit - about $350. But I'm going on the 15th - Christmas tickets were $600+ last time I checked. We'll be OOT regardless, but seriously, fuck that noise. We're doing alternative Christmas from now on.

Tickets home to Alaska were too expensive since we moved 1/2 way across the country. I was stoked however one of my BFF's from my wedding month board invited DH and I to her house just a couple of hours away! (Gas between Chicago and Milwaukee will be a gazillion times cheaper than tickets to Alaska)
We're going to Orlando from NY over Christmas. I believe our tickets were just over $400/each We could have gone for about $100 ea/ less if we were willing to drive to JFK, but I wanted to fly out of the smaller (and closer) airport
We don't travel for Thanksgiving on principle, but for Christmas we got really screwed flying to Orlando (from Detroit). Tickets have been outrageous for months. I ended up booking 2 roundtrip non-stop flights for $350 for one + $100 using my Delta companion ticket.
4 tickets from Austin to DCA, DCA to Orlando, Orlando to Austin. About $3000. But the Orlando thing is a surprise trip to Disney for the kids for Christmas and also a fun vacation for all of us, so I am considering part of the cost as gift and vacation expenses rather than holiday travel expenses.
