Dd has all of the classic teething symptoms (drooling, diarrhea, very irritable, etc) and I think she's starting to get her first molars. With all of her other teeth it was pretty easy to see that they were about to break through. I'd give her some Tylenol and it seemed to do the trick. This time around I don't see or feel anything in her gums, but she is obviously not herself and the fact the she has been getting her teeth 3-4 mos before theyre "supposed" to come in puts these right on track.
So, if you give pain meds for teething, how did you decide when to do it? I don't want to dope dd for no reason but she is one hell of a crankypants and it seems to help.
The only other details are that she does not have a fever and we've been dealing with some sleep issues because dd would rather use her crib time to practice pulling up and crawling than sleeping.
If she is having symptoms, I'd go ahead and give her some ibuprofen (or tylenol if you prefer, I tend to think ibuprofen works a little better and longer). I don't see any harm as long as she is otherwise healthy and it will make you both feel better.
I do have ibuprofen. I just haven't given it to her before bc she got her last teeth before 6 mos ( when the package said I could use it). Unless I'm reading it wrong, the dosage actually seems much higher (1.85 ml v .4)

I agree. It's hard when they can't tell you when it's hurting again, but generally if the minimum amount of time between doses had gone by and they were acting fussy again, we'd give them another dose. If they were having symptoms all day, we'd generally stretch the 2nd to last dose so that they got a dose right before they went to sleep. Them (and you!) not sleeping b/c they are up all night with teething pain helps no one.

Dd has 8 teeth. Yes, I'm so lucky.
Wow. DD is 7 months now and still has no teeth.
My 10 month old has 10 teeth! He cut all top four and two bottoms at the same time. Other than a lot of drooling he did well.
OP -- like everyone else I would give the ibuprofin and see if helps.
I try to hold off as long as I can, but if I'm reasonably sure that it's teeth (the symptoms you describe point to teething for us, too) and comforting her doesn't seem to help, I'll do ibuprofen before bed. We haven't needed to do it often, but used sparingly, it does seem to make a difference when she's in the throes of the worst discomfort.
i would give ibuprofen for teething pain- mostly just before nap or bedtime... during the day i'd give them cold things to chew on instead.
This. My son was miserable while teething so he got Ibuprofen before naps and bedtime. I had 4 frozen teethers and I constantly was switching his out. I also tried Sophie the giraffe but it didn't work for him. I have heard it works wonders for some kids. I also gave him Benadryl at bedtime twice a week while teething. He woke up every hour while teething and my pedi recommended it to keep me sane.
