Since I am ignorant of most things ear-related, would the treatment for a ruptured eardrum be different from what you are doing (antibiotics + steroids)?
If yes, I would maybe try to see someone else before the weekend.
If no, since you ARE feeling better, I'd give it another day or so for the swelling to start coming down.

I know your frustrations. I went cloes to 4 months going to DRs about issues that were not normal for me, only to be brushed off with you are getting older, you are out of shape, here are some pain drugs. Turns out I have a rare blood cancer. Not saying your situation is being caused by some demonic underlying condition.
What I am saying is that you are your own best health advocate. You know your body, what is normal for it and what is not.
I would research local ENTs and get an appointment with a highly rated one ASAP. Do research, ask questions, keep pushing.

I've had two ruptured ear drums (both at the same time). I didn't have any external swelling like you're describing, but it took a long time for my ears to improve. I was on antibiotics for a month, and they didn't put me on steroids until it had been a month and I was still having problems hearing.
I don't think there's much they can do for ruptured eardrums. Can you also take some ibuprofen to help with the swelling? I would wait until Monday and see if the swelling goes down before calling the doctor back.

If you are not happy and feel that something is amiss, I would consider going to another ENT. The only thig is will you be able to find an appt with someone new before your appt next week.
I had a sinus infection not long ago that sounded a lot like your ear infection. My ear was on fire, and the pain had moved to the back of my head and neck. Antibiotics cleared it up, but it was about 2-3 days before feeling better.
