I have an Ergo Sport that I like (does not forward face, but you can wear on your front or back). Beco is another good brand for a soft structured carrier.

We have an ergo and beco gemini and I like they equally at this point. Easy to slap on and get J in it in under a minute. I'd watch the online sales/amazon and try to get one of those. They're not cheap, but have held up great so far and have decent resale value, too.
I love my Babyhawk Mai Tai. It's a good blend of structure and wrap, super easy to tie on, and I still wear DD on my back in it at 30 pounds and 36 inches. I got a clearance pattern for less then $80.

My Ergo was slightly over $100, but it has been worth every single penny. So comfortable, even when my 45 lb 3 year old insisted on being carried in it at the zoo last week. I believe they are weight tested to 45 or 50 lbs.
By far my most used baby item. I borrowed a Bjorn from a friend when my second child was an infant, and couldn't handle it once she was past 12 lbs. If you like the Bjorn, the Ergo will be amazing.
I can do a back carry by myself. Practice over a bed so if there's a drop, it's not a disaster. Back carries are great for keeping the kid out of the way (easier to cook or clean that way).
Another vote for the Ergo. I set a price watch on Amazon for the model I wanted (Ergo classic), and snagged it for $80. My baby is big (24 lbs) and I can wear the Ergo for hours with no pain whatsoever.

For an older or larger baby I would go with the Ergo or the butterfly over the Gemini. The Gemini has a narrower base, so it can be less comfortable with an older baby/ toddler.
Edited to add- In my experience I have found that front facing is really only an issue between 3-6 months or so. At that age they really want to see out, but can't figure out how to do it on their own. An older baby can turn their head or lean. Also they can see better once they are worn on the back.
I wore DD2 in a SlingEZee for a long time--it goes up to 35 lbs. I loved it, and it was really easy to just stuff it in the diaper bag and always have it with me. But it's a ring sling, and I know a lot of people prefer structured carriers.

Another thought, do you have a local babywearing group? Our has meetings where you can come and try out different carriers. For a small yearly fee ours lets you borrow a carrier for a month. It is a nice way to test something out before you buy.
