The nurse who taught our childbirth class strongly recmended bringing something to wear during labor and delivery, other than a hospital gown. I'm trying to figure out what in the heck the options are!
Fwiw, I'm a water-lover, and expect to labor in the tub for long periods of time.

For DD, I wore a stretchy nursing bra, an oversized t-shirt, and a black cotton skirt from Old Navy. My nurse seemed a little taken aback that I didn't want the gown, but I reassured her I didn't mind if it all had to go into the trash or had to be cut off in an emergency, and then she didn't seem to care. Throughout labor, I got super hot. I ditched the shirt pretty early on, and by the time I was pushing, I was totally naked, which I really didn't expect, but oh well. Overall, I was so glad I brought my own clothes rather than the hospital gown like I wore when I delivered DS!
I did wear a gown for about 12 hours after delivery while the bleeding was super heavy. After I took my first shower, I changed into yoga pants and a nursing tank.

Hospital gown and nursing bra for both kids. I was fine leaving them on both times, but I also spent a very short amount of time pushing. I was glad to have a hospital gown for the first night as afterbirth is very messy.
Before that, a hospital gown. After that, a hospital gown. I was bleeding in a way that did not lead me to want to wear my own clothes. I put a sleep bra on under the gown to feel a bit more covered.
I won't pack any more clothes next time. Just something to wear home.
Hmm, you all are making me think. I'm not particularly a modest person, and prone to being overheated, so I'll probably end up naked. I think I'll pack the moving comfort "Fiona" bra that Brie mentioned liking. I generally don't like my boobs dangling everywhere.
I'll pack yoga pants, nursing tanks and a lighter robe for recovery.
I wore the hospital gown for L&D with nothing under it. I didn't mind it at all and never got hot. I changed into a nursing tank (with nothing on bottom other than the lovely mesh panties since I was covered by the sheets up to my waist) as soon as I got to my PP room. I wore a combo of nursing tanks and nursing nightgowns the rest of my time in the hospital.
I wore the hospital gown the whole time. I was only in the hospital 2 nights for #1 (but I had her in the evening) and 1 night for #2. I had c sections for both. Our hospital doesn't allow visitors (other than grandparents).

Hospital gown through delivery and until I showered early the next morning. Then I changed into my own nursing tank and comfy yoga type pants. I loved being able to wear my own stuff, but I think it's personal preference. I've had plenty of friends that were in the hospital gown their entire stay.

I wore the standard hospital gown for delivery. Then once I moved over I wore a fancier hospital gown that tied in the front for ease of breastfeeding. Our nurse during our birthing glass told us to make sure to ask for them special because they don't just give them out.

I brought some things but did not end up wearing of them. I was in the birth pool for awhile and then moved to the bed. Pretty sure I was not wearing anything while in the pool or the bed. After she was born I put on a hospital gown.

I wore the gown during labor and delivery. The two weeks I was in the hospital prior to giving birth, I wore yoga-like flowy pj pants and layered tank tops. I switched back to that later the day I gave birth.

I love the Fiona bras for working out and you could totally use them for nursing if needed because the straps Velcro on each side. I went to the sporting good store and tried them on to find my size, then ordered on amazon for $15-20 less per bra.
Gown for delivery and the hours until they moved me from L&D to my room. I had very big elastic pants that were easy for them to check me and a nursing top.
hospital gown until i was discharged (4 days). ours had slits in the front that made it for easy access for BFing. i did wear the mesh panties after my cath was taken out. if we had visitors or went walking the halls, i had a robe.
I checked into the hospital in the morning for leakage and wore the hospital gown while they did my initial exam and placed my IV. Then I switched into pj pants and a camisole tank and tshirt for the rest of the day. I convinced my doctor to let me go off the monitors around bedtime and switched to just the tshirt on top. When my water broke that evening I changed into the stretchy ON skirt listed above and paced the halls like that. Then labor progressed so quickly changing into a hospital gown never crossed my mind. I was in the bed getting my IV antibiotics started and then all of the sudden I was complete and pushing her out!
I still have the tshirt (it is a red chiefs football shirt, lol) but can't bring myself to wear it now. Just feels weird. It got no labor goo on it as far as I know.
from my week on hospital bedrest I quickly learned how uncomfortable and not modest a hospital gown is. It is way easier to get the monitors on when wearing a shirt you can just lift up, and wearing a stretchy tank under the shirt can actually help hold the monitors in place.

I labored mostly at home for both pregnancies. For the first one I was naked at home, put clothes on to go to the hospital, wore the gown, and then stripped to my bra at some point in the process.
With my son, I wore the skirt Hilary posted and a maternity top all day. The skirt is super comfy. I packed a halter top bathing suit for the hospital, hoping i could use the shower there. I was at the end of transition when I got there and wanted to stay in my clothes, but didn't have it in me to argue. I got undressed, my water broke. I put the gown on without closing it and I had to push immediately. After the first push I took it off and ended up in just my bra.
If you plan on showering during labor, I highly suggest a shower cap, so your hair stays dry.
