I'm betting it's not gallstones. My mom had them, and she was in so much pain she couldn't function. But I guess pain is different for everybody...No fever?? Call your doc if you're worried!
DH had gall bladder issues and had to get it taken out. Not gallstones, but his gall bladder just stopped functioning. He was in horrible pain for 2 days and then when he finally went to the doctor, he passed out there because of the pain.
My DH had over 30 gallstones and an infected gallbladder before we realized something was wrong. He wound up doubled over on the floor in pain.
DH was diagnosed by ultrasound. Before that, they thought that he might have a kidney stone. If you describe the pain to your doctor, they should be able to order some tests to get to the root of your problem.
Does eating fatty foods make the pain worse? My grandmother (a nurse) always said that you can tell if it's the gallbladder by eating fatty foods. She specifically said she used to feed avocados to my late grandfather..if he doubled over in pain, she knew it was gallbladder and not something else. I wouldn't recommend purposefully TRYING this, but if you happen to have eaten fatty foods in the last day or so, and it affected your level of pain, you have more information to give your doctor.
I found out I had gallstones after eating chips and queso dip. I thought I had food poisoning, but it was accompanied by what felt like super painful, burning acid reflux. After I vomited five times in a couple of hours and was crying from pain, I went to the ER where they did an ultrasound. I got it removed a few days later because I never wanted to feel that level of pain ever again.
A visit to your PCP won't tell you if you have gallstones. You will need an ultrasound to determine this. My PCP referred me to a place to get an ultrasound, but I ended up getting a severe attack and went to the ER, where they diagnosed me. The pain of the attacks, even the first one, was severe. Nothing I did would ease the pain and I'd pace for the two to four hours that the attack happened. It was awful.
Definitely let your doctor know you are TTC, as he may be quicker to send you for an ultrasound because you don't want to go into a pregnancy with gallstones. You wouldn't want to have surgery while pregnant, and could end up miserable living with bad attacks during the pregnancy.
