I am pretty sure DD has HF&M. I'm going to take her to the pedi, but in the meantime -- how long should I expect to keep her out of daycare? I am going to need to start shifting appointments and things.
I think DS was miserable for 3 or 4 days. You have to keep them out until the rash stops weeping. DH was off work, so at least daycare wasn't an issue. Worst case, she'll be out a week. Warn daycare when she goes back - her poo will remain viral for up to a month. Obviously they should be washing hands and careful touching things... but it never hurts to remind them.
And wash your hands, withhold your kisses, and pray you don't get sick. I was out of work for a week when I got it.

We just went through this for the second time. I'd call ask the daycare for their policies. Initially our daycare said DD had to stay home until blister free. That could be up to two weeks. Then they came back and said that she could come back with a doctor's note.
Our pedi said she was no longer contagious as long as she was fever free and the blisters were no longer multiplying. In all that was 5 days.

Gah, that's terrible! I am praying that I got this when I was a kid and am immune -- she got her fever yesterday and we thought it was due to a cold, so I was full of cuddles and kisses and all kinds of other risky behavior.

Your pedi will be able to answer for sure, but DD was sent home on a Friday with it and was back to school on Monday. We caught it early and our doctor schooled us on what to feed her. She was actually pretty thrilled to get to eat ice cream for all her meals, so besides being lethargic and sleeping a lot, she was a pretty happy kid. Her whole class got it and were all covered in scabs come Monday morning.
