There really aren't stages to testing. You have bloodwork done on day 3 of your cycle, then again 7 days past ovulation. You will need an HSG or SHG (something to check for uterine shape and tube blockages). Depending on how long since the last SA, you may have to repeat that. With a history of sub-par results I will bet an RE will want a repeat if it has been more than 6 months and was not done by their stricter scale. Lap is something for you and your doctors to decide on. That's pretty much it (maybe an ultrasound to check for cysts). Based on those results they will move forward with treatments.
Unless you happen to be on the correct day in your cycle, these will likely not go down at your coming appointment.
What GM said. My doctor also did a diagnostic cycle with daily monitoring (bloodwork and ultrasound) from CD12 to O (in addition to the CD3 and 7DPO tests referred to above, as well as a SA and a SHG). I would go in at 7 am before work. I happened to have my first appointment on CD3, so it all progressed very quickly that month.
We just had our first RE appt today (it was scheduled for June but was moved up 2 weeks). I went in and a nurse did vitals then we waited to see the Dr. The Dr asked us a ton of questions and looked at the preappointment paperwork we had filled out. She explained further tests she wanted to do (HSG, SIS, CD21 BW, CD3 BW with repeat TSH, etc.) and SA for DH. She also discussed treatment options if all tests come back negative and we have unexplained fertility and what the risks were for each. She then did an internal ultrasound on me for baseline. We then met with their financial advisor to get costs of potential treatment and finally our nurse. Their office assigns a nurse to every patient as a point of contact for questions, scheduling, etc. All in all it wasn't that difficult and went smoothly. I was on CD 9 so I'll go and get CD21 BW to make sure I ovulated (bc I chart I normally O before CD21) and then call on CD1 to get CD3 BW and to schedule the HSG and SIG for days 6-10 (they can be done same cycle but have to be on different days). And then once all the results come in we will decide if we want to pursue treatment. Hope this helped and good luck on your appointment!
