I thought the same thing. I just couldn't picture Tyler Perry as Alex Cross. But then DH and I went to a talk by James Patterson where we also got to see a trailer for the movie, and he said that Tyler bulked up for the role and did an amazing job. He also said that Tyler Perry embodies Alex Cross more than Morgan Freeman did. That the relationship with his family is an important part of the character and since Morgan Freeman is so much older, they couldn't bring that aspect into the movies.
After that, I think my mind is changed. DH and I are going to see it.
I can't even take that trailer seriously because of it. I get his appeal and the appeal of his movies - but not him in that particular role.
I think that's probably exactly why he wanted to do this movie - he has basically typecast himself, and this will give him a chance to show a totally different side. Whether or not he can pull it off remains to be seen, but I'll probably see the movie.

Morgan Freeman will always be my AC. I assumed they cast TP due to the age thing. However, I will see the movie since I love and adore the Alex Cross series.
The first time I saw the trailer I kept hoping it was a Madea movie and she was going to come out as the lead detective or something. I'll probably wait to see this when it's at the cheap theatre.

I didn't like Morgan as Alex. He seemed to old to be Alex. In my mind when reading the books I was picturing Denzel.

I have never liked any of those Madea movies, but I'm intrigued. I really did like Morgan Freeman in those movies but have never read the books before.
