The Hare Krishna thing - I'm getting a little concerned about the need to squeeze every single '60's pop culture reference into a Mad Men episode... I don't see what the Paul Kinsey storyline had to do with ANYTHING. Anyway...
Lane - wtf? How did he get in this situation? Is this the downfall of SCDP?
Loved Don and Joan together. They had great chemistry in that scene. I don't think I've ever seen Christina Hendricks look more beautiful than when she was laughing and overall enjoying herself in that scene. I do not think anything will ever happen between the two of them nor do I want it to. And I do not get why she won't take money from Roger. I mean I sort of do, but I don't. It is his child.
And Megan was behaving childishly. Period. Granted, she had good reason to call him out on what he did. But throwing a plate against the wall?
I loved, loved, loved, loved Don and Joan together.
Word. They were delightful. I don't want them to get together but I love them hanging out one on one.
Poor Pete. No one ever gets excited for him. And then Don swoops in with his speech and everyone's all stoked about working weekends.
I think Lane was embarrassed that he owed back taxes considering that he's supposedly the one who does the books, even though Joan really runs everything. We know from a few episodes ago that he feels like he doesn't do anything. He probably didn't want to look even worse to the other partners.
And I think Joan doesn't want to deal with any of the strings that come with Roger's money. She knows how manipulative and childish he can be.
I totally thought this was going to be the tipping point with Don and Megan. I thought he was going to be like "f this shit, I do what I want" and walk out when she scolded him.
OMG finally there are other characters on the show besides Megan!! Loved. Love loved. Probably mostly because of Don and Joan, although I enjoyed seeing Kinsey back. Of course he would fall for that shit.
Lane owes taxes, on the phone in that first scene the guy mentioned owing the queen. I couldn't figure out why it's so difficult for him to embezzle money, except maybe than Joan would catch him - they don't exactly have to be SOX compliant back then. But I guess if you need a sr partner signature he's screwed.
I thought this from Alan Sepinwall was spot on: "Matt Weiner has been incredibly stingy with Don/Joan scenes — though they've interacted plenty of times, this episode and "Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency" are the only ones I can think of where a significant amount of time is devoted to just letting them talk to each other about their lives — and it feels like he does so because the chemistry between Jon Hamm and Christina Hendricks is so explosive that if he did it more regularly, we wouldn't care about any other relationship on the show."
Why was Lane so insistent on the staff bonuses? That part confused me.
So that he could take a bonus (from the line of credit - he's lying about there being a surplus) himself and not have to forge the check.
Yeah but didn't the partners give up their bonuses? Was that just his plan all along and then it backfired because they decided not to take the bonuses themselves? This the part where I'm confused because the staff bonuses didn't benefit him at all.
I still don't know what I think of this weeks episode. I liked a lot of it. A lot of it was really weird. Kinsey in the Hare Krishna made me laugh, but it seems really really really random.
I think that Megan's frustration had been building for a long time. It is obvious that Don does not take her, or her acting, seriously right now, and after his comments about the play (which looked awful lol), and him going MIA, she freaked out. She was still stupid about it, but I understood the frustration.
I feel really badly for Lane. He seems like such a good guy, and he has gotten himself into a pretty shitty situation. I too think he might kill himself, after it gets out that he took company funds and extended their line of credit for his personal reasons.
Can someone explain what the point of Mama Lakshmi getting it on with Harry was? I was as confused as he was at the end of it.
I was confused too. The only thing I can think of is that it's a bribery thing- if you don't leave Paul alone, then I'll tell him you screwed me. But that wasn't what she said. It was just weird.
