1. Do you bring a gift? Just cash or gift card for the couple? I assume the latter would be preferable because they don't want to haul a bunch of a crap home with them..
2. The wedding is in Hawaii, what exactly am I supposed to wear? I know very little about this wedding and it is in January. I know I have nothing to wear, and I'm assuming it needs to be something semi summery which may be difficult in this time of year.
We are freinds with the groom, so I feel a bit awkward asking a bunch of questions about their wedding with the only intention being to find out what I'm supposed to wear.. lol. (I don't even know if it's on a beach or in some sort of venue or..). Formal invites have not been sent out yet, should I expect that more information be in that?
1. I always bring cash or a check anyway. Wrapped wedding gifts are not common in my area. Like you said, it's best to just bring an envelope so they don't have to lug it home, or mail a gift to their house if you want to buy something boxed.
2. I would wait for the formal invitation to arrive, then if you're still unsure just call and ask what you should wear.
1. I have always sent a gift to their home ahead of time. That's what I usually do for any wedding.
2. It depends on the event. The invitation should tell you or give you hints. Not all destination weddings have the same dress code.
Thanks v! Good idea about sending the gift ahead of time. I guess I have to wait for the invite, I just hope they send it soon because I have trouble finding attire for a normal event.
1. I always ship a gift to the couple's home ahead of time. If you don't want to do this, I would tuck a gift card or cash inside of a wedding card.
2. Is it a beach wedding? A sundress or other type of summery dress would be perfectly appropriate. Check the invitation and/or wedding website for details that may clue you in to the formality of the event.
Hawaii in January? That is the rainest time of year! Which island is it on?
I would assume a sun dress or knee length dress unless told it is formal. A nice pair of sandals, no heels. It will still be warm in JAN but it will be very chilly at night so prepare for that when packing.
Bah.. thanks for the insight. I am very unaware of the weather patterns in Hawaii. The wedding is on Maui.
OP, when I lived on Oahu we got monsoon type rain a couple times in JAN/FEB...so bad I couldn't drive to work. That said, it isn't everyday. But it will rain everyday, even if it is only for a couple minutes. That is totally normal.
Kauai is the rainest place on earth *literally* Maui is a cool island, but there isn't too much to do compared to Oahu. Are you staying close to Lahaina?
Thanks Carrots. We haven't booked anything yet, but most of the places we are looking are right near Lahaina. There are also a few that are quite a bit south from there. I want to say the wedding is near Lahaina, but yea.. I could be messing up names pretty easily.
Hopefully it doesn't rain like that on wedding day, that would be sad.. I was expecting the few minutes of rain a day, so that's nbd.
Def. stay near Lahaina if you can help it. There is more to do there. You're going during whale watching season too! Take advantage of that...and if you have time, get up super early one day and do the Road to Hana.
Thanks! Taking note for when I actually start researching this stuff/planning activites! Any benefit of buying a guide book or anything?
We did a DW and no one brought gifts with them. To be honest, since they were travelling so far for my wedding, I didn't expect gifts from anyone. However, most people did send gifts or cards with checks to my home afterward.
