How's it going? I spaced out and haven't finished this week's chunk, so I'll finish and come up with a question or two by this evening or tomorrow. Meanwhile, talk amongst yourselves.
I think the main events in this week's section are the visit from Isabella and her family over Christmas and Mr. Elton coming onto Emma?
Yep, pretty much. Also lots of discussion about Frank Churchill, Weston's son, and whether he will make an appearance.
How are you fining the men in this book? They are not so sympathetic to me, at least at this point. Mr. Weston seems fine and Mr. Knightley is interesting. Mr. John Knightley and Emma's father are both PITAs, it seems. I don't like Elton at all, perhaps just because he seems clueless.
If you didn't know the story, would you have thought Elton was interested in Harriet? I was working off my Clueless preconceptions, so it's hard to tell whether it would have been obvious if I didn't already know the rough outline his story.
Oh my, Mr Woodhouse drives me crazy, constantly worrying about everything. Poor Miss Taylor this, and poor Isabella that. Like they had no choice in their decisions to get married. He's kind of a hypochondriac too it seems.
Would I have thought Elton was interested in Harriet. That's a good question. I think I might have realized he was just trying to impress Emma.

I remember finding Elton too easily persuaded, though not necessarily because he was interested in Emma.
Mr. Woodhouse was ridiculous. Mr. Knightley got more likable as the book went on, but I didn't appreciate how he was always trying to correct Emma. Mr. Weston was the only non-offensive one.
