THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2012: Schedule your imaginary mammogram at Planned Parenthood! We all know Planned Parenthood DOES NOT PERFORM MAMMOGRAMS. However, President Obama, Planned Parenthood CEO Cecile Richards, celebrities in Hollywood and countless Planned Parenthood supporters claim over and over that they do. They absolutely refuse to admit that the largest abortion organization in the country does NOT PERFORM MAMMOGRAMS. We'll prove it.
Call 1-800-230-PLAN to get your local Planned Parenthood center.
Most likely, your conversation will go a little something like this:
PP: "Thank you for calling Planned Parenthood, how can I help you?" Caller: "I'd like to come in to your clinic for a mammogram." PP: "We do perform clinical breast exams, and we refer out for mammograms, but we don't perform them in the clinic." Caller: "What? But Barack Obama said you guys provide mammograms!" PP: "We don't. We refer out for them."
TRUTH BOMB: Planned Parenthood is a level-one breast service provider. This means they are not only unequipped to perform mammography... it is ILLEGAL for them to do so. The extent of their breast health services are manual breast exams. They refer out for mammograms, but they DO NOT PROVIDE THEM.
Note: we are not doing this to simply bother Planned Parenthood. We are doing this to call them out on their lies! It's time for the truth to come out...from their own mouths. Share with everyone you know! We would love to get thousands of calls into Planned Parenthood centers tomorrow!

Don't some of them also hand out vouchers to pay for mammograms, not just refer them out? They don't necessarily do them on site, but they are paying for them.

The pro-lifers have actually shot themselves in the foot with this, since most PP's don't actually perform abortions onsite, either- they usually provide referrals to other facilities. But I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for them to retract the claim that PP is the country's largest abortion provider.

Ehh I don't take issue with PPFA being referred to as the largest abortion provider. I can't quickly find any exact stats, but I can't imagine they're not. They perform about 25% of all abortions in the US (300k and change of the 1.2 million abortions). I can't imagine there is any other organization performing 25% of abortions unless you lump all random hospitals together and all non PPFA clinics together. In that case, it would be much closer, but lumping abortion providing orgs in together that aren't actually related seems odd when we're talking about who the single largest provider is.

If that 25% refers only to abortions done at an actual PP clinic, then I don't have a problem with that, either. I know in my state only one PP is equipped to perform abortions, and the rest refer people to a number of outside providers. So the number of abortions actually provided by PP constitutes a very small minority- I don't know how that compares to other states, though. It also just occurred to me that I was thinking in terms of surgical abortions; including chemical abortions would change the numbers quite a bit.

Yes, abortions only account for 3% of PPFA's services. On paper abortions aren't a big part of what they do, but for the US as a whole, the abortions they perform are a pretty large percentage.
Obviously, these numbers start to look very different when you're looking at individual clinics that may/may not perform abortions. I asked about it once a few years ago and I'm pretty sure the PR guy at my local (abortion performing) PP said that abortions made up about 30% of what that particular clinic's services
