So after this underway is over H's ship is going to the yards for a much needed complete overhaul, which is going to take 11+ months. I was really excited at the prospect of having him home for that long!

Well, today he got the news that they are permanently reassigning a majority of the guys in his division to other ships since they are in high demand and they can't really do their actual job while the ship is being worked on. This means there's about a 90% chance he will switch to a ship that is getting ready to deploy I'm super bummed, not only because of the deployment factor- but I've just really got into this whole FRG business and have finally made friends with other wives.

I know I shouldn't get myself worked up over something that isn't set in stone yet but my mind is swimming with possibilities.

That does suck. I'm peeved on your behalf. I must admit, I don't really understand how the Navy works with deployments vs. underways, but I can imagine that this situation blows either way.

Would this (potentially) mean a PCS for you, or just a change of assignment? If you're not PCSing, you can keep hanging out with these same women, right?

I could just be making this up, but I think underways are characterized by being less than 6 months in length and not in combat zones. H's ship has been going out for a couple weeks to several months intermittently this year.

It could possibly mean a PCS depending on which ship they transfer him too, but the likelihood of that is low. I do think I'll continue being friends with some of the wives I met via the FRG, I'm just annoyed since it took so long for me to actually do it and now that's getting all messed up.

If it makes you feel any better (and I know it probably won't) but shipyard periods absolutely suck. Some of the guys on DH's boat said that they preferred being deployed because they didn't have to work as hard. Hopefully if you do have to move it's to somewhere awesome with great people.

That sucks, I'm sorry. When H just got promoted there was a good chance he would have to change commands to one getting ready for a deployment (with him just coming off back to back deployments), and the waiting game for it all sucked. Hopefully it works out for you guys.

Maybe you won't have to give up the FRG position if he would just be TAD to another ship for a short time. If he goes TAD I would talk with the CO's spouse (or whoever your POC is) and see what they say about it.
