Mangomama - it looks like we'll be neighbors after all!
H will need to report no later than Jan 3. His OTS graduation is Dec 14 so it will be a busy few weeks. He will be on casual duty for about 3 months before training begins. That will be nice having some time with him (and for him to bond with our baby) before the crazy studying begins.
I feel like I'm in shock right now. What?! I'm moving to TX? Wtf did I get myself into? (i don't have anything against TX... just in shock).
I'm so happy to know someone in the same boat as us! My H's report date is 31 December, but as of right now he doesn't know his class date, it will be interesting to see if they end up in the same one!
What does your husband think? We took one day to pout about it and my husband still jokes that we're moving to Mexico, but he's happy that he'll be flying and that's all that matters.
I hope at least one of your H's gets C-130s and you come here, if only for training. I want to meet some MNers - I've never met anyone from here! I'm jealous.

Lol at these lackluster responses. I can't say I've ever heard anyone praise Del Rio, but it is great to finally have the information
2 of my good friends were there. One started on 130s (which she loved and misses) the other on 135s. They've both had a stellar career trajectory since then.
Okay, I'm back now. I had to take a little break while I wrapped my head around moving to Mexico, I mean Del Rio.
Thanks for the support everyone! Definitely a little bit of a shock because H had listed this location as his last choice, and given that he's at the top of his class at OTS, we figured that would count for something. We have nothing against Laughlin but I think we had just both mentally crossed that option off the list so it was a little bit of a surprise
As with anything in life, I think Del Rio will be what we make of it. I'm determined to go there with an open mind and positive attitude. After all, our family will be together and that is what's most important to me.

Mangomama, my H's pilot training doesn't actually start until end of June!!! His IFS will be mid-April, so casual duty until then. We will definitely need to meet up when we all get to Del Rio! Will you guys be living on base?

Oh wow! My husband finally got official orders today (they were just "projected orders" before) so its a definite "go" for us. He's in his office pouting a little bit, I think he held on to a little strand of hope that it would magically change. God love him. lol My husband already went to IFS so hopefully that will count for something when it comes to class dates. At any rate, he's going to be well on his way to Captain by the time he gets his wings, lol.
I can definitely relate to the shock of moving to Del Rio. We didn't even consider it when they told us they were shutting down the squadron here. We thought we would just be sent to Vance.
We're going to be living on base. Now that we have official orders we can get on the wait list and start the PCS paperwork. I think we'll be there either early or mid December. If you need any help at all please feel free to flag me down. I'll help with what I can!

Because all of us are going uuuuugggghhhhh on the inside and don't want to scare her.

OP... it took my H 18 months to get to the T-1. We went through Florida, and the Navy wasn't in a hurry to get things done. (Nothing on the Navy, but that was the SOP at our base). When your H gets to the training, it will go pretty quickly, so there is that. We were kind of surprised how quickly things moved once we got to Vance.

H went through the ROTC route, so I know it's a little different, but I'm pretty sure it was over 9 months from commissioning to getting a slot. In the meantime, they paid for him to get his private license and training while he was also working a day job at an rotc detachment.
