My brand-new, almost never been walked on rug from Homegoods is practically ruined. It's like the vacuum cleaner sucked up the fabric so hard, that it's covered in a layer of think rug fur. It's hard to describe. Anyone else have a problem like this? I'm going to try to shave or trim the rug, but I'm afraid it's ruined. I'm so pist. My entire dining room is decorated around that rug. It's the focal point of the room. Grrr.
I'm going to get a reputation as the anti-Dyson, but we tested ours on a rug and it was a beast. There is an attachment that you can use on rugs, though.

I know it pulled the seam out of my old berber carpeting (and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they installed the carpet incorrectly -- it's the previous owners' MO at this point to do things wrong), but I haven't used it on a rug (I have carpet, so no rugs). These things are kind of.. powerful? I would use the attachment, if you got one, for rugs.
My Dyson hasn't ruined anything but other vacuums have. Certain rugs you can't use the beater bar (spinning brush) on them, which has always left me with a dirty looking rug so I take my chances.

When we were buying carpet last year, the carpet guy said several carpet manafactuers will have it written that if you use a Dyson, it will void the warrenty. They are just too powerful for some carpets and the beater bar literally beats the crap out of the carpet and frays it. We don't own a Dyson, but I found that interesting.
