Daycare had me pick DS up early today because he had 3 loose stools. They said I could bring him back tomorrow if he is fine overnight, but that I would have to get him early again if he has 3 again.
Yesterday he pooed more than normal (like 4-5 times), but they didn't seem particularly liquidy; however, the last one was green. He did not poo overnight.
This morning before daycare he pooed and it was semi-liquidy but yellow. He has pooed once since coming home from daycare and the poo was greenish yellow.
Anyway, other than the first of the morning diapers the diapers have contained a very small amount of poo. He doesn't have a fever and he is his normal chipper self.
I called the Dr. but they said not to worry until it was more like 15 times. He hasn't been sleeping well so I think this could be related to teething, but I don't really know.
Aren't his stools usually pretty loose at his age? I wouldn't keep him home unless he has a fever or starts really having a lot of poops.
This. I have never even heard of sending LO home for loose stools. LO is 1 yr (tomorrow) and always has loose stools when he is cutting a tooth. Try some applesauce or banana tonight to firm up his bowel movements.

He is 7 months.
They are loose since he isn't eating solids but these are more liquidy than normal. It is pretty noticeable. I think daycare was more concerned about him going 3 times in 6 hours (he normally goes once every couple days).
Maybe I will try some apple. I am hesitant to give banana because he didn't go to the bathroom for 12 days last time he had it.
I am guessing he may be cutting a tooth but who knows. I feel like I have been blaming teeth for everything since the kid was 3 months old and he still has zero.
I do not know about DC but this does not sound particularly concerning for an EBF infant. I assume he has no fever.
Nope, no fever. Yeah, I wasn't too worried about it. I mentioned to them that it is probably normal since he is BF and they said they knew that but it is in the rules. Maybe it is a licensing thing?

That is weird (the DC rule). One of my sons (also EBF) would have a BM every time he ate until he started having solids. I have been total that is completely normal. Hopefully things go okay tomorrow.

Yeah, it is normal. But DS hasn't been like that since he was 2 months. I think he does have some tummy issues (but I don't think he is sick). I think it is because he ate an entire tomato.

I would hope with the antibotics I would tell them he is on antibotics and that a side effect is looser stools. I think they just want to make sure its not a stomach virus?

Our daycare also has this rule - I had to get a note from DS's pedi that loose, frequent poops were normal for him.
If he's acting fine and not running a fever I would send him. You're BFing, right? Have you eaten anything new in the last couple days that might have affected him?

I agree with others--it's a weird rule, and I wouldn't keep him home. Both my kids have very loose and plentiful stools (5-6x/day x 2 kids) when they are teething or have a minor cold. My DCP knows that and is fine with it. We'd have had to keep them home half of last year if they had that rule.
I guess it's different with an in-home. Our DCP would never send him home for loose stools.
Unless DS seemed unhappy or was puking, I wouldn't worry too much, but definitely keep an eye on it. Sometimes poos are weird especially with a EBF baby.
I have one baby who had loose stools for what seemed like FOREVER since he was on one antibiotic after another. They usually don't send home babies for loose stools unless it's accompanied by other symptoms. My boys both still poop several times a day.

We kept him home today because he had two BMs before we even left the house (although I think that was just because he wasn't finished). I called the daycare to tell them and they mentioned that as long as he seemed fine and they looked normal (they look normal to me) that I could have brought him in. I think they are just overly cautious the first day, but as soon as I say its normal it is fine.
Oh well, I think DH is enjoying his rainy day at home with the baby.
