I loved that House and Wilson rode off into the sunset together. Perfect ending.
I agree. I love that Chase became the head of the diagnostic department. I have always been a Chase fan, although if I really had to admit it, in the beginning he seemed to be there more for eye candy and the cute accent (not that I minded! ;D). As the show went on and his character grew, he became a better doctor. Too bad they can't do a spin off with Chase, but that wouldn't make much sense I guess. I also loved the ending. When I thought House died it just seemed wrong, but after finding out what really happened, it was a typical House move!
I was worried with the direction the finale was heading in, but I am happy with how things ended. Definitely happy that House and Wilson enjoy the time Wilson has left and that Chase took over as head of the department.

All of this. I loved the end with House and Wilson. I loved seeing that Chase got the job, and I loved seeing how Cameron's life was - I missed her.
Also I totally cheered when Amber showed up, she was so delightfully evil. Though part of me hoped he'd see Cuddy too.

I have to admit, I was only half-watching as well, so...
Was it that House decided to give heroin a try, and went to opium den or whatever warehouse he was in with his patient to try it? And then...what happened? The patient was already dead -- did he OD? Seems odd that he would be dead of smoke inhalation while House was still bouncing around. Do we know how the fire started?

Yes, the patient died from an OD. The fire started because the guy passed out and dropped a cigaret (remember the burns on his neck from the beginning of the show).

But why would that start a fire on the floor below them? It fell through a slat in the flooring or something?

I think so, there were fairly large gaps in the flooring.
