I dont think any Disney restaurants are too nice for little kids- as long as they are reasonably well behaved for the signature restaurants! We have Rainforest Cafe here so I dont feel the need to eat there while at Disney, but TRex is also Downtown and similar but something different! I have never been thrilled by the Crystal Palace lunch menu, we always do breakfast there- its pretty similar to the breakfast at Chef Mickeys though. Love Coral Reef!
I would not do Rainforest Cafe either. Maybe Whispering Canyon over at Wilderness Lodge?
Citircos is one of the fancier signature restaurants. They will definitely accommodate kids, but you might be comfortable at Narcoossee's or California Grille.
You can read detailed reviews at DisBoards to get more ideas.
Tuskegee House in Animal Kingdom is a character buffet and is supposed to be really good. We are eating there next trip. I really liked the breakfast at Crystal Palace and we did the Hoopdee Doo Revue at Fort Wilderness which was a lot of fun but more $$
