H and I like to do one big trip and one small trip every year. This year we did the Bahamas in the Spring and then 3 days in Vegas a couple weeks ago.
Next year as our small trip we are thinking of doing NOLA. Is NOLA anything like Vegas? Not so much in atmosphere but it the fact that after 3 days in Vegas I was more then ready to come home. Is NOLA a good short trip or will we want more time?
We did NOLA for about 2.5 days (one evening after our flight, two full days, partial morning before our flight) and I would have liked to have had a little more time, but I feel like we got a good feel for the city in that time. We rode the trolley's, went on a swamp tour, wandered around a cemetery, and ate ate ate. It was pretty awesome, and way more fun than any time I've spent in Vegas.
NOLA is probably my favorite US city - and I feel like it's a great long weekend trip. We've been there a number of times for 3 nights. I think that timeframe totally adequate for doing a lot of the major touristy things and eating some great food.
After 3 nights in Vegas I am running to the airport (and I LOVE Vegas) but I would be happy to spend another few nights in NOLA. It is truly a one of a kind city.
We did Memorial Day weekend in NOLA and it was awesome. I felt 3 days was good but I can't wait to go back. It was very romantic. A stay at the Ritz, a carriage ride through the Garden District, a fabulous lunch at the Cafe Amelie in the FQ, 25 cent Martinis with lunch at Commander's Palace, the street cars and beignets, a little gambling at Harrah's and Jazz Brunch in The Blue Room at The Roosevelt Hotel. The Big Easy was so amazing.

We did three nights in NOLA last fall and I wish we could have had one more day. DH did four nights this summer in NOLA and thought it was one night too long, but he was there for a friend's bachelor party
NOLA has so much history. You can spend a lot of time there IMO. So many neighborhoods to explore. And food to eat! I had to go home after 3 days cause I couldn't eat anymore. Really though - I've been to the city maybe only 3 times and would go back in a heartbeat. I can't say the same about Vegas.
