Good morning! What's going on with all of you today?
QOTD: If your home country and the other country/ies you're affiliated with compete in whatever sporting events you like to watch, who do you root for? Does it depend on the sport or other factors?

I'm trying to get some work done on my dissertation again today. Yesterday was a complete wash for reasons I might get into in another whole post. I also have to go to a visitation this afternoon for a good friend's mother, though. She was only 57 and had been battling breast cancer for about 3-4 years. He's my age, so it really hits home. She was always such an active, vocal person that it's hard to believe she's gone.
QOTD: If Germany's playing any other country, I root for Germany. If they're playing the US, then I want the US to win. I feel like that's a pretty standard way to do things, but I'm hoping some of you are more discriminating in who you cheer for. :-)

I'm under house arrest for fedex, and working. It's finally beautiful out after several days of rain, so I am a little cranky about being stuck inside. On a regular day, at the very least, I would have left my desk by now to pick up DD at school.
Also, my parents are leaving tomorrow and I have mixed feelings. They are really terrible houseguests and shipping them off to a hotel wouldn't have made things much easier. But, I probably won't see them again until we go back to the U.S. in many, many months and that makes me a tiny bit sad. Basically, living 2-3 hours away from them back in the U.S. is the ideal distance and being able to see them with other family members around (my siblings, cousins, etc.) also makes them easier to handle.
And finally, I am feeling a little emotional in general because DH's grandmother is really, really sick and probably won't make it for much longer. I am sad for her, I am sad for MIL, I am sad for DH, but the whole thing also makes me anxious about my own parents' mortality since they're in their 70s. I feel like I should be making the most of every minute they've been here with us, but the reality is that we drive each other absolutely crazy when sharing a Parisian apartment.
QOTD: I don't get too riled up about most sports, but in the World Cup for Soccer, I generally cheer for the U.S. and for Brazil. If they played each other, I'm not sure who I would root for. In baseball, I cheer for the Mets (NY) even when they play against the team from the city where I grew up. Sometimes I cheer for Cuban players/teams in international competitions. There's a really nice Cuban baseball player I met the other day here in Paris and that makes me want to start supporting the team he plays for here.

It's a completely typical work day with nothing exciting happening at all. I will be making tater tot casserole for dinner tonight, so that will be fun.
QOTD: I don't watch sports that much and I rarely get worked up about them. I don't follow popular US sports at all. For the Olympics, I support the US of course, but I just love watching all the great athletes from around the world. I'll definitely cheer on little Croatia in the Euro 2012. But to answer your question, no, I have no deep emotions about sports and no particular loyalty to the US in sports.

I went to the park with a friend who has a daughter W's age. It was so much fun. I wish I had more days like.
QOTD: Most of the time I will pick the USA over any other country I may be affiliated with. For the Olympics, I typically go for the team/person that has a better story. Since I watch NBC's coverage, that usually means the US.
