I don't think I've read any new books published in 2012 and I don't think I've read anything that really jumped out as being a favorite. I'm a little disappointed. I really liked the Hunger Games (I know, lame) and I also liked The Art of Racing in the Rain but I have a soft spot for dogs.
Does Goodreads show your books by publication year? I'm not sure what books I've read that were 2012 releases. Best book I've read this year was Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny. It's 5th or so in a mystery series but it was just a really excellent book.

It's a toss up between Let's Pretend it Never Happened by Jenny Lawson and Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed. Both are non fiction and I enjoyed them for very different reasons
So far, it's a toss up between Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand and Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver. They're all so different and I loved them for different reasons.
Im about to start book 4 of the Outlander Series... i dont know if i will be able to pick a favorite book but is without a doubt going to be one from this series.

I haven't read in books released in 2012 yet, so let's just go with my favorite book that I've read in 2012, which would be "The Help", although it made me cry a lot.

So far, The Green Mill Murder by Kerry Greenwood (not published in 2012).
I really appreciated the discussion of the Australian forces at Galipolli and Pozieres. World War I is really glossed over in many history classes in America, and the history lesson was timely as I was reading the book over ANZAC Day. Quite aside from the history, it was a fun murder mystery with great characters. If you can find them, the Phryne Fisher series are well worth the time.
The Humming Room by Ellen Potter. It is a re-telling (so technically AU fanfic) of The Secret Garden, and it was awesome. I need to look some other books by the author.
Is this a good read? I have it on my list for summer reading for my honors kids. (I teach HS English, and we have required summer reading.) I only allow one student per book, and A LOT of them requested this book.

The Fault in Our Stars had me crying pretty much the entire back third of the book. But my favorite book this year that I've read has been The Winter Garden I am emotionally attached to that book.
I loved The Bronze Horseman and totally got lost in it. And (totally dorky, I know but) I really enjoyed The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. It changed the way H and I handle our money, and inspired us to work hard to reach our financial goals.
