I was just reading the LES for this month and I noticed that it had Fam/Spouse coverage for X amount. Am I automatically covered? I also want to look into more coverage for both of us. Any advice would help.

Last I looked at it was years ago, when we fist got married. If you're paying for it, you're covered. However, the payout is a tiny fraction of what his would be. I believe if you want more coverage for either you have to do that on your own.
My H signed me up to have it- I'm assuming yours did the same. I don't think it's automatic since you have to pay for it. I have additional coverage my mom had purchased for me years ago, which I took over. It is through MetLife. I would look around on the internet and get free quotes and decide from there. I know USAA has life insurance I'm sure is worth looking into.
Sorry I didn't state that clearly. I know we would have to find other coverage ourselves. I was just asking for suggestions for companies. He said he didn't add me. I am not sure why it would be there if I wasn't covered.
On my LES, SGLI and FAM/SPOUSE SGLI are on different lines.
The SGLI amount depends on what level of coverage the member elects when filling out the form, but maxes out at $400,000 ($27/mo). Some people decline coverage altogether when they fill out the form. If you do this, then you won't be covered, and you won't be charged. I think a lot of people do this initially because they don't know what level of coverage to get so they just decline. It's easy to request coverage again though -- just go to personnel flight and fill out the form again. Easy peasy.
FAM/SPOUSE SGLI is automatic at the full amount ($100,000 for $5/mo) when the member gets married. It can be declined later though if you don't want it.
I was having a complete *duh* moment. I went back and checked the LES and it has $27 and a few down $5 for Fam/Spouse. Thank you Villanv. His dad helped him with all of that when he joined. How long after marriage does it take effect?
