I use the kindle app for iPad and when I start a new book, it takes me right to page one, chapter one. I just discovered I've been missing maps, photos, forewords, prologues - all sorts of things before chapter one! I'm re-reading The Autobiography of Henry VIII and I had no idea there was a prologue setting up the rest of the book. I feel silly.

That's one of the things I dislike about my Kindle. I like to read all the preliminary stuff -- in some books there are explanatory notes, in others there are "casts of characters," still others have illustrations or maps before the text begins.
If there is a way to set it to open to the cover of the book rather than the first page of text I haven't found it.
Yeah, I always start by opening Location 1 when I start a book after having a similar realization a year ago. It's really annoying and I haven't found an automatic fix.
