Ok, your DR consists of the bare minimum- table & chairs, a buffet (or china cabinet or lowboy or whatever), ONE piece of art for the walls, a rug, curtains and a CP.
You have $200 for the room (to decorate more/ make it homey) what do you buy?
(this is assuming you love everything that you already have. And yes, I'm totally stuck on wtf to use in our DR, it looks bare next to our LR and kitchen! I'm not looking for specific ideas for our room, just what real people decorate DRs with)
do you have nice dishes?? I would use those, buy some placemats, chargers, napkins and napkin rings, a nice center piece and a runner for the table. Then I'd buy some pretty decor items (hobby lobby when they're 50% off!) to decorate the buffet.

I’d do the exact same. If you have any money left over, why not print out a few nice photos that you’ve taken on trips or of family. You can do that real cheap online these days. Ikea has cheap simple frames you can paint to whatever color you want or you can get nicer ones at the craft store using the 40% off coupons.
Paint. Maybe change out the light fixture (if you can find something on CL that might just need spray paint, that'd be awesome) and maybe a runner/centerpiece for the table. I love finding sales and I bet you could make $200 go a long ways if you find the right deals!
Its hard without seeing the space. I keep picturing my own DR which is open to the kitchen and LR so only one piece of art would fit.
I would probably head to HomeGoods and get a few nice vase centerpieces for the buffet and the table and maybe a set of white dishes and nice glasses. Otherwise paint.

If the walls are white, I'd paint first.
Then I'd accessorize the table. If you go to HomeGoods/TJMaxx/Marshalls or someplace like Target, you can stretch your money a good ways. Buy some nice plates, a table runner, something for the centerpiece. I like using a big charger and grouping things to make it look like the items are there on purpose. Candles on candle sticks/in candle holders, a vase and a little bird, etc. Make sure the height varies if you use candlesticks so it looks interesting.
