Our weather hasn't really changed yet. It's overcast and looks like it will rain soon. I don't really expect us to get hit all that hard. Our house rarely loses power because all of our power lines are under ground. On the other hand, my work always loses power as the office is surronded by trees which tend to fall on the power lines. And because of it's geographic location, it's not a priority to get fixed. So if power goes out at work it might be 12 hours to get it fixed, or it might be four days. As far as prepping, we winterized our yard already so there wasn't much to do there. K is picking up a few propane canisters in case we need to cook on our BBQ or coleman camping stove. Flashlights have batteries and there is plenty of non-cook food in the house. That's about it for us.
We have a few gallons of water, some PB and bread, and put the flashlights out so they're handy. I moved my car to the local supermarket (overnight parking for residents only) so it wouldn't be under a tree or power line. That's about it. We live in a third floor apartment in a neighborhood that is not likely to flood, so I'm not too concerned for us personally. Power going out would be a pain, but not an emergency. Both of our works are closed tomorrow, and I won't be surprised if we're closed for Tuesday too. It's hard to get around here without the subway.
We are supposed to get hit pretty hard. Right now it is breezy and overcast. We have flashlights, non perishable food and stuff to cook on the gas stoveop, have packed our freezer with bags of frozen water, filled every container with water, and took down our patio furniture. We had never lost our power until the Derecho this summer (we got one huge gust and lost power for 24h (which was the lower end of power outages around here.) Hoping we escape the power outages this go round.
The kids are out of school Monday and Tuesday already. L was planning on working from home tomorrow, so she will be home with the kids if I decide to go in (right now the clinic is open, but I am not sure I want to go in and possibly get stuck....) Looks like we will both be home on Tuesday.
We have 18 gallons of water plus three cases of 24 pack bottles. We gathered everything outside. We won't flood, but we will have no power and no running water. We also have many 70+ foot trees on our property so we are a little worried with one of them coming down on the house. I am unfortunately considered an essential employee so I have to be at the hospital no matter what happens.
During the storm last year we had no power for 9 days so I am not feeling too optimistic.
Lots of water. Our grill is on our patio strapped down. School is canceled for tomorrow for DW so she is home from work. I am waiting to see if my grad school closes. I am due in field on Tuesday and cant wait to go because I want to see what this does to an inpatient psych ward. Should be interesting. I hate all this waiting though and I am supposed to have a therapy appt in the morning so we shall see if that happens.
We will almost certainly lose power. We lose it often in bad weather. Fortunately, when we lose power, we still have water. We made sure we have batteries for the flashlights and a radio since we dont have Internet on our phones and will want to be able to get news somehow. I got food we can cook on the gas stovetop. The cars are gassed up and I got some cash from the ATM. We have coolers an ice for cold food. Brought in stuff from patio. It's been a but rainy and windy all day. Doesn't look like our town has cancelled school yet.
Both kids will be out of school at least monday and tuesday. We will almost definitely lose power but we are at the top of a hill so I'm hopeful we wont flood. I did a ton of laundry and dishes, we froze water and picked up non-perishable foods, we can cook on our gas stove, and thankfully its not too cold so we may be able to stay home even if we are w/o power for a few days.
I went into work today and plan to go in tomorrow morning until the storm gets bad (predicted around noonish). They dont close for anything so i predict a lot of childcare juggling to make this week work.
last year's storm had us out of power for 5 days - it was horrible, but mostly b/c it was so cold. I have PTSD about the whole thing.
We have food and water and batteries. We realized that we don't have coffee. For christ sake how did we forget that! So dw is out getting coffee. We can cook on the gas stove. I am not all that worried I think our proximity to Boston will help with not losing power for long. We did lose power overnight which is strange since it is only raining. Dw is working from home and E and I have no school. We are just chilling out in our princess dress waiting. It isn't supposed to get bad until the afternoon here.

C pretty much stocked us up on water, non-perishables, lights, batteries...etc. I (like CT) did all the laundry yesterday and we both tried to get all the cleaning done. We received a call early yesterday evening that the Kiddos' daycare was closed...then later we got the official email message that work was closed also. Tomorrow Peanut was supposed to see the neurologist in the early a.m. but I guess I will cancel that...it took a month to get that appointment. Also, the Kiddos' will not be having their fall festival and (more than likely) their character march :-( ... What messes with my psyche is that my Mom is about to have surgery in a little less than an hour and the flights are grounded on this end..............I hate feeling like I just can't hop on a plane if I need to go see my Mom.
My work is officially closed for tomorrow too! (They changed our official policy to close when the NYC DOE closes, and they just announced.) I probably should not be enjoying this so much.... We're watching a Harry Potter marathon, eating cookie dough brownies, and listening to Bloomberg's press conference.
