The Orbit labels from Inchbug are the ones you're thinking of. They have a lot of names that are pre-printed in an acceptable font, but DS2's name was not one of them so I had to do a "custom order", only choice on fonts is Comic Sans and so his bottles appear to be made from a kid's lemonade stand.
The inchbug labels are great for the bottles. Durable. Removable if necessary (like once they switch to sippy cups and you want to bring one to a play date). Dishwasher safe. We put our last name on ours instead of their first names and have been able to use them for multiple kids (just to be MM, you know).
We use a black clothing marker (at any craft store or Wal-mart, maybe even Target) for clothes. Sharpies can bleed through on lighter clothing.
I just used whatever online place gave me a good price for iron-on lables. I ironed to clothes/cloth and used clear packing tape to tape to containers.
One hint that I really liked was to use 2 lines - for name and phone number. I liked that DD had a phone number on her jackets in case she got lost and it was handy for her items, too.
