I got sucked into this once again while eating my late lunch.
A mother hates her son's Fiance. Both are claiming the other lies. The Fiance has been married 4 times previous so the soon to be mother in law hired a PI to look into this lady.
Apparently the Fiance says she is a Marine yet the Mother couldn't find any record. Dr. Phill asked where she served and she said Ohio and asked how long she served she said-- I didn't make it through Boot Camp. WTH Lady. My eyes are rolling out of my skull right now.
She sounds like a girl I went to high school with. Tess everyone she's a Marine. Real story: she tore her ACL on the third day of boot camp and got sent home.
She's been married once, has two kids by two different guys, and us now acting my sister's douchy high school BF.
Sometimes I don't even like telling people I was Navy because I was only in for almost a year. I didn't go on any deployments or anything and feel a little embarassed whenever anyone asks where I went/how long I was in/etc.
Ha! I'd just be like "yeah, boot camp kicked my a**." Be honest about it. USMC BC is rough going. Still, she didn't get the EGA, so saying she's a Marine... may as well say you're a pirate since you spent some time on a jet-ski. Can't be much different being a pirate, right?
I didn't get to watch the rest of the episode, but it was a good reminder that as parents, we set the example for what a marriage looks like and how adults act. That dude would not be that lady's fifth husband if either of them had relatively normal youths.
:Y:
I see so much of it in how kids act sometimes. Goes both ways too. I have a friend here who drills into her daughter the Ma'ams and Miss First name. She is from the south and me being from the north we just referred to grown ups by Mrs/Miss Last Name never said Ma'am until I got here haha. 95% of women in Minnesota will give you a funny look when you call them Ma'am. Most likely they will respond with -- I'm not that old! Even if they are 100. lol

I agree.. people who lie about serving really grind my gears.

I moved from PA to FL, and let me tell you... the sir/ma'am thing is so pronounced its weird. A lot of time people perceive you as rude if you don't use ma'am, but it was just not ingrained into me as a kid. I've had a few discussions with one of my friends here (she's from rural Alabama) about how people in the south stereotype all "yankees" as rude.

Yep I totally agree. I say please and thank you a lot but to some its not the same.
