Ugh, I'm the exact same way. I blame my big sister -- wasn't she supposed to teach me about hair and makeup and clothes?
We have a squadron dining in this Friday. One of the other girls in my squadron and I decided to hire a lady to come over to one of our houses (we're practically neighbors) and do our hair and make-up. I feel a little weird about paying somebody to do something for me that I ought to be able to do for myself, but I know it will make me feel pretty and feminine.....and since I have to wear my uniform, I'll take all the pretty and feminine I can get:-)
Are you AF Villain? My bestie wore her uniform as my MOH, and I thought she looked gorgeous! Cummerbunds and tie tabs are supah hot!
Yep, AF. I joking tell people that our mess dress uniform is the most feminine uniform I have:-) Sad because it's true.
However, it's always fun to see the expressions on the faces of guys from work when I show up with hair and makeup done. I have to remind them that, yes, I am actually a girl!!!
I'm cheap. I refuse to get my hair done for the ball. I already have to pay to get it done for a wedding this Saturday. I refuse to pay for it 5 days later for the ball. I plan to do this to my hair. thebeautydepartment.com/2012/09/double-rope-braid-bun/
I've been able to do it before, but I just got my hair cut and my layers recut so who knows how it will work now.

Oh! So pretty and looks simple in theory; I'm sure it works/looks better with thick hair. Will probably try it at home anyway one day to see if I could pull it for office wear.
because then when I want to look really gorgeous, I have to get my hair and m/u done, and I'm stingy so I hate spending the money.

I know that's a fairly easy hair style, but I'm going to spend $75 for someone else to do it for the ball. Sad.
Gorgeous style - and I know you will make it look even more killer. I consider myself pretty darn feminine and I'm not even sure I could do that hairstyle to myself.
I have no clue what I'm doing with makeup. I _think_ I'm now into double digits for the number of times DH has seen me wearing _any_ makeup, and that includes our wedding day.
And hair, well, I'm hopeless. Before I cut it, I could do a braid or a bun, or could pin it up in something that looked like a bunch of curls stacked on my head. None looked as polished as a professional stylist could do, but they worked for the few times I had to do my hair for work. Now my hair is too short for that, and I'm at a loss for what I can do other than toss a couple little clips into it to pin the front parts back and keep them out of my face...
1. If I was a better girl, I'd offer to help you but I suck at being a girl too. 2. You are right, your bestie did look hot at your wedding. 3. I can't even do the headband curls, so you're a better girl than me.
I'm only girly when it comes to makeup and occasionally my hair (although I don't do anything special to it), but I dress like a tomboy most of the time.
I'm so cheap that I'm not even going to the ball because I don't want to spend money on a dress, shoes or tickets.
There's always YouTube tutorials. You have time right? I'd practice on myself or with a friend. Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised.

I've never even heard of headband curls. I lose...
