Probably stupid yarn question

Knitpicks Palette comes in a ball like this:


Do I have to wind it first or can I work from the ball without a mess?

Huh. I would probably work off of the ball, but I'm just guessing.

I've done it this way as well and it worked just fine. I bought yarn in a hank once that I had to wind - NEVER again. It totally sucked! I'm too lazy for ball winding!

I agree with Rock-n-Voll, when I've used those, I go from the outside.
