So This Old House was a no-go, instead we're putting in an offer on a place that was built this winter. The negotiations should be easy since it's just business for them and we're willing to pay list price (unlike the last two houses where the list price was definitely highballing it). It's the one in my sig .
My sister just bought a new condo in Atlanta, and she asked the builders to include a "2-10 warranty" that acts as insurance for things that homeowners insurance might not cover ... appliances breaking down, that sort of thing. Does anyone here have one of those? Is it worth it? A lot of the googling online makes it sound like they're kind of a scam.
Mine was all one builder in a large development and it came w/ lots of warranties...I have a whole 3-ring binder. But, it wasn't negotiated, just included.
This. I *think* WA has a law requiring new construction to have a warranty.
We have one, didn't pay for it or ask for it. It was automatic. They also came and fixed things for the first year and I was told that is pretty standard.
