There was a madras comforter with just solid colored sheets at Target a few weeks ago when I was looking for our boy's room. It was in the kid's bedding section, which is in a totally different area from the regular bedding. In our store in MN it was near the ironing boards and garbage cans.

Eeeeehhhh, I'd just suck it up and buy the pb one. It's a not a childish print/pattern, so he can use it indefinitely. I was going to say just buy solid sheets from somewhere else, but then I say the truck sheets. I'm no help......I'm an enabler.
I have a 15% off coupon that expires TOMORROW (11/1). I'll PM you the code. If you happen to want to buy in person, PM me back your email and I will forward you the email I have.

When we close on our new house, I will be buying DS a quilt from either llbean or pottery barn. I want one that will last through high school, and I am willing to spend more. The cheap ones look cheap.

If you're willing to wait and have a store near you, it'll probably go on sale eventually. We got Kid 2 a Cat in the Hat quilt from PBK and it was $89 or $99 for a twin. The website said they were sold out but our local store had it. Initially I was kicking myself for having waited too long but was a total score in the end.
we got Griffin the batman stuff from pottery barn - the comforter is not a theme- so he can use that forever (i love it)... and the sheets are a nice "manly" batman, so he can also use that forever (my husband would love them now for us! lol)
DS1 has the madras quilt from PB that you posted. I struggled with the price when I bought it and looked around for something less expensive, but never found anything else I liked as well, so I bought it. I am so glad I did! He has been using it for three years, and it still looks new, despite frequent washings during PTing days. Due to the pattern it doesn't show stains at all. The colors are awesome and blend with basically any fun theme sheets or art that he picks to go with his current interests (so far we have used the quilt with firebrick stuff, dinosaur studs, and now Star Wars stuff).

I am not sure this bedding ever really goes on sale much. That same PB madras bedding has been around for years, and I have never seen it discounted any more than it is now. I also scouted the PB outlet near me for it for a while and never saw it there.

Excellent point. We went themey with Spider-Man and cat in the hat. But yeah if that's a standard print I say buy it.
