Well, for a little enabling, I SERIOUSLY regret not getting pro newborn pics, and we called the nursery the "beautiful storage room" for about a year.

So therefore, I don't have any photog recommendations as I didn't have one of my own, but I highly recommend getting someone with plenty of experience, and bring a lot of patience. Also the first week or two is the best window, crazy as that sounds.

It depends what you want to spend. The newborn pics of Kennedy that were done by Cloud 9 Studios were amazing but they are $$$$$. My SIL and BIL paid for them.

My mom took a newborn photo of the girls, not to mention the umpteen million we took in the NICU.
She also took on maternity picture of me.
And ne'er the world shall see it. I was so gross pregnant.

You know I love Jason's wedding photos, but I'm not into his newborn photos. I really like outdoor photography. Plus I can't stand his photo of the mom, dad and baby in black with a black background. That is enough For me to pass on his baby photos. He does killer weddings though.

I aggree about Jason A...I love his weddings and stuff but his newborn work is not my style whatsoever. Check out Jennifer Mauren. Her newborn work is out of this world good!! I know she is pricey but you kinda get what you pay for in the photog world. And as a pp stated...you want someone with a lot of newborn experience!
