Our dachshund went blind recently. For whatever reason, he's not good at finding his way around, even though he should have learned it by now. That means I have to pick him up and carry him to the water bowl, carry him to the food bowl, put him outside and watch him, carry him to bed. Good grief. Most of the time I don't mind it (and consider it good practice). But like tonight, where he sat on the couch whimpering for 20 minutes for no reason and would.not.stop. after carrying him outside, carrying him to the water bowl, I picked him up and looked him right in his blind little eyes and said "WHAT? What do you want???" I assume I will go through these exact same emotions with an infant? lol
My friend lived with us for a while with her blind little mini dachshund. One thing that seemed to help her was putting her collar on and making the tags long enough to drag on the ground when she put her head down. It made some noise, but I could tell she used the sound to judge distances/floor changes, etc.
